  5. So that’s where my family was. Jews in the Lublin area. Killed in mass graves and others sent to Maidanek.

  6. in 2016, I used to have an over 90 yo Polish neighbour who was one of the first prisoners of Auschwitz (a little known fact – it was built with Poles in mind). she was arrested as a 19 yo for having helped the partisans, brutally beaten up into unconsciousness and held for 2 weeks until the Nazis transported her to the camp.

    I was shocked by her integrity and firm character when she invited me over for a tea. she seemed unmarked by the events as she was recounting her stories. it was until she needed to look through the peep-hole onto the corridor when I was leaving. ‘just in case’, she said… and still, after so many years.
