Tere folks,

“[November](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2YZ1X1OhD4)”, the 2017 movie from Rainer Sarnet, was a treat. Am going to watch it again and again.

Anything similar you can refer to a new Eesti resident? You know, to learn some words and start to “get you”, whilst enjoying a good film.

  1. [“Meeletu” (2006)](https://jupiter.err.ee/1034846/meeletu) and [“Kirsitubakas” (2014)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3Qw1kCX5Mo) are both somewhat weird movies. Both of them have a story about a main character who wants to go into the woods. They are both good movies that have their quirky moments.

This is purely my own opinion but about 10 years ago, production quality of estonian movies has improved but screenplay has went to shit. Estonian movies from 00’s suffer a bit less from this, but these days it’s becoming much more difficult to find a movie that isn’t depressing.

To give this benefit of the doubt, I’ve tried watching several popular estonian movies/shows such as “Keti lõpp”, “Pank”, “Päevad mis ajasid segadusse”, “Sandra saab tööd” and “Vehkleja” – and they bored the hell out of me. They have a combination of emotionless acting and bitter, overly cynical humor. Depressed estonians is not the world I want to escape to when I put on a movie, it’s a world I want to escape from.

Truth be told, there are some exceptions to this rule. “Tõde ja Õigus” (2019) was a masterpiece (dark story but that’s fine, considering it’s historic) and maybe “November” is good as well (I dunno, haven’t seen it). Also “Ameerika suvi”, “Sangarid”, “Eia jõulud Tondikakul”, “Hüvasti NSVL” and “Kormoranid” were kind of okay as they have a slightly more lighthearted tone, you can give any of them a try if you are looking for more estonian movies to watch.

Again, I want to emphasize that this is my deeply subjective, personal criticism. Any of you who read this and want to disagree, I want you to know that it is OK to disagree.

  2. “Kratt”. It’s a dark comedy, horror, history and a drama which is called a family movie but is rated PG13.
