It’s really been a godsend for the conservatives. “There’s a pandemic, look, *everyone* is fucked!”
It’s just that we seem to be a bit more fucked than most. I’m no economist, but I would have thought the difference will become measurable in the next few years.
Covid-19 could be one of the best things to happen to boris, any problems caused by brexit can be easily blamed on covid instead.
Billions in covid contracts to friends, family and party donors is just a nice fat bonus as well.
Professional/financial (whatever your preferred jargon is) services guy here; fully paid up member of the grey suit mafia.
It is *absolute fucking chaos* (to use a technical term) right now. In the three days I’ve been back, it seems like everybody I speak to has either resigned (clients too; on one major project for 2022 half my team and my main client contact have resigned this week. Genuinely tempted to apply for his job tbh), got covid or is off with stress or dealing with endless performance reviews as a result of mental health impact on their work.
I’m fortunate that the niche I’m in isn’t massively exposed to brexit, though we have lost a couple of eu staff over the last couple years too (one really good guy we still can’t replace).
It’s at the point where I jokingly suggested we just extend Christmas leave by two weeks to my boss and realised he was genuinely considering it.
Investment in the CoL has continue because… <checks notes> …of Covid 19?
More like CoL’s were wrong and don’t want to admit it.
If the pandemic ended tomorrow they’d still be blaming the Brexit shambles on it 5 years down the line
boris would clearly deny this like everything else
>*COVID-19 is masking Brexit*
Badum Tish! Very punny people at Reuters
I cant believe the vote for Brexit was five years ago now. It’s not been as doom and gloom as some people suggested. We thought it would worse.
Aye, having everywhere closed for 18 months and printing loads of money to pay furlough has no effect on the economy duh
FFS why do you think Boris ploughed on with Brexit in the face of a monumental, once in a century killer pandemic? It was the perfect smokescreen for his ineptitude and the real reasons behind it.
Country gone to shit? That’ll be Covid. Classic Tory swerve.
