Lots of people have tried these stunts down the years, they never work. A students union somewhere tried renting glasses and giving away free beer, remember that one ??

He’ll get a run at the Dáil out of all this. Probably get elected as he’s a cute hoor taking on the big boys in Dublin.
As I understand it, the ‘spirit of the law” carries no legal weight. The intent of the wording is open to interpretation, usually by a judge, but the ‘spirit’ is invoked to cover the regret that the wording of the law/statute is ambiguous, poorly framed, or has holes/workarounds in it.
“out of glasses” = the guards came in and started asking questions
