  1. They are overused. Especially in this post game of thrones world. Much quicker & easier to just have the post coitus snuggle / chat scene than make us suffer thru a fake scene that looks uncomfortable to shoot for all involved.

  2. **Henry Cavill says “I’m not a fan” of sex scenes and “I don’t understand them.”**

    **Cavill :**

    > “I think sometimes they’re overused these days…it can be a little bit of a cop-out if a TV show or a movie is just filled with gyrating bodies and you’re going, ‘Okay, but what is this doing for us apart from the idea of, oh naked person, great.’ [I’m] not a fan of doing them.”

  3. Idk, I’d have to see some more Cavill sex scenes before I make a judgement.

  4. Especially in porn.

I never have any idea who the characters are, nor what motivates them.

  5. But where are those good old-fashioned values on which we used to rely?

  6. It has been a hallmark of prestige TV, but generally, I think movies in the last decade or two have gotten more prudish about sex.

  7. Can’t wait for the producers of 40k to make Henry have a sex scene

  8. If anything, there are far fewer sex scenes in movies than there used to be back in the 80s and 90s.

  9. He’s right. HBO was ridiculous that way 20 years ago. (Maybe they still are)

  10. I respect that he doesn’t want to participate in them but, um, as a consumer I would prefer more not less. I feel a strong mainstream prudishness is really making for some boring opinions.

  11. *Cavill added “…frankly, I don’t understand sex in general. I find the whole thing icky.”*

  12. He probably feels that way because most of his sex scenes in The Tudors were unnecessary. I mean, I enjoyed them. But they were unnecessary lol

  13. I can’t remember the last movie I saw a sex scene in. In the 90’s and 00’s it was basically in everything

  14. Good for him; I agree. Gratuitous sex scenes are exhausting to either watch or have to fast forward through. Seeing people being objectified constantly is gross too.

  15. I’m with Henry, sex scenes are so soooo often just pointless or uncomfortable. The 90s and 2000s loooooved that shit, so many back and side shots.

  16. As I’ve gotten older I am agreeing more and more with this. Unless the entire movie is about sex I can’t think of any movies where a random sex scene drives the plot forward in a way that you couldn’t accomplish by just alluding to the sex.

  17. He has a sex scene in the Tudors that makes me cringe. He is engaged in the act with a married woman, after a doctor said working yourself into a natural sweat nightly can ward off Sweating Sickness, and after a few words are exchanged upon finishing, he tells her to “get your husband to lick it off.”

Do we know who her husband is? No. Did this woman appear before or after the scene? No. It’s just the most random scene and it kills me every time.

  18. I agree Henry. The ones in Luke Cage are really stupid. It’s like they’re trying to give off big dick energy instead of having romance

  19. We have porn at our fingertips now. Sex scenes in movies is a waste of time. They’re a relic from when that was the only nipple you’d get to see all week.

  20. Musta been tough for him in the tudors. Dude was banging left and right

  21. I was okay with sex scenes before all the gratuitous softcore porn in Game of Thrones. Now I just find sex scenes boring. There was a sex scene in a movie I saw last weekend and I wanted the actors to put their clothes on and get back to the plot.

  22. I was just thinking about it when watching “Morning show”. The sec scenes with Jen Anniston and John Hamm were just too lengthy. I mean, cool and all, but like common, get to the next scene where something is happening. A lot of sex scenes are just too lengthy and don’t add any value. But I guess they are good for a bathroom break or a kitchen run for a snack before the next scene starts

  23. I feel the same way, Henry. A tasteful fade to black is always better. Anything more feels like a genre switch from action/adventure to suddenly soft core porn? Then back to action adventure.

  24. Any show that has a sex scene within 10 minutes of the first episode starting I immediately turn it off. Sex scenes are filler and lazy writing and if you have to throw one in that early, your show sucks.

  25. Sex scenes are there to keep the mouth breathers in the audience engaged.

  26. He’s right. It’s not necessary. Hint to it. Believe me the audience knows.

  27. He’s not wrong. A lot of movies just shoehorn in romantic subplots and sex scenes when it adds nothing to the story.

  28. Can’t say I’ve ever seen a sex scene and thought it added much to the plot, at best it’s awkward, at worst it’s boring. If I wanted to see people having sex I’d watch porn. If they removed them entirely I wouldn’t mind at all.

  29. Yes this!! Only sex scenes that makes sense and fit into the story. But random sex scenes just to have sex in the movie is just gross,

  30. It’s lazy writing if you can’t show intimacy without taking Characters clothes off

  31. Always thought Mad Men handled sex very well. You knew where it was heading and it would fade.
