This is the same guy that got real mad over a few crazies burning Qurans in Sweden.
no one in turkey cares about this or wants this. some government officials like to just say stuff to keep people distracted or to test the waters before doing something controversial. these stuff dont get a lot of media coverage here because that is what they exist for but a lot of the time foreign media either falls for it or uses it as non-controversial ragebait
I wanted to see those priceless Byzantine mosaics for so long. Well, I guess I’ll have to wait a little bit longer before Turkey finally gets rid of Erdogan which all in all seems inevitable.
The mosaics are beautiful, but they will cover them up…
Traditions.
Very sad…
Good, Turkey only has a bunch of Mosques while having hundreds of dozens of churches/s
I am sorry about this as a Turk. The title is kinda false, it has already served as a mosque for a long time during the Ottoman Empire but it became a museum later just like Hagia Sophia. I think it should have stayed as a museum. Kinda looks disrespectful to both history and religion.
Didn’t expect anything better from Turkey.
Fuck the Turkish government and fuck Erdogan
Roman church.
Fuckin’ degenerate nutjob
Erdoğan’s policy of Islamisation continues and the secular order in Turkey is losing blood every day. As an atheist Turk, the idea that this could eventually lead to an Islamic republic like Iran terrifies me.
Yeni Akit is a small, Islamist, and untrustworthy newspaper. They are famous for their hateful headlines and **debunked false claims.**
It is true that they’ve wanted to turn it into a mosque since 2020 but the renovation handicapped them. It was closed for a long time. Also, **I couldn’t find any other sources for Yeni Akit’s claims.**
As a citizen of the Republic of Turkiye, I never support the ayasofya (Hagia Sophia) to be a Mosque.
Christians are right to be angry and they are right no matter how much they swear at us. so I ask why after Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia) became a mosque, does Turkiye have the right to say a word against the conversion of mosques into churches in Europe?
As a citizen of the Republic of Turkiye, I am in favour of Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia) being neither a mosque nor a church in order to best serve the history of science and humanity.
Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia) should be a Museum for the best service to science and human history
Honestly, it’s a shame for us that today’s Turkish Government, or in my experience (Neo-Ottomanism), does this just to look cute to religious voters. Disrespect to Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia) will remain a stain on the Turkish nation.
**As a citizen of the Republic of Turkiye, I sincerely apologize on behalf of all Christians and I am very sorry for this disrespect. I hope this disrespect will be compensated as soon as possible.**
1000 year old mosaics and frescos will be covered up, possibly damaging them irreversibly. This is terrorism in my eyes, and I’m an atheist.
I’m not surprised. That’s been their policy since the Ottoman Empire, like with the Hagia Sofia it’s a dominance thing. They do it to prove a point, especially when they’re upset with a “Christian” people.
As a turk I am still pissed about the decision to convert the Hagia sofia from a museum to a mosque, this is really not worth doing…
I would have said that he should build a new one if he wants more so badly, but it will probably crumble the moment the air blows too fast
Ataturk is rolling in his grave.
The secular system he created is being stripped away by the fundamentalist Erdogan.
Why is Turkey mentioned in a European sub?
The museums are being closed. No point in visiting Turkey anymore.
Disgusting way to ruin a historical building.
Deus Vult!
And Edrogan dared to throw a tantrum when someone burned the Quran in Sweden.
And all the problems solved !! What genius idea. All they do is cheap show offs. As a Christian Turk, Erdogan don’t care about Turks, he only cares about muslims and arabs..
Like seriously, this is utterly ridiculous. Maintain history, especially something such as this, this is a direct insult to religion and history alike, and should not simply be ignored.
Chora overlived centuries and empires. I am sure it would overlive one power-hungry XXI sultan wannabe.
Erdogan and his party is turning like Modi India with stuff like this, so unnecessary.
He turned Hagia Sophia to one. I dont see why he cant keep doing it without any problems for any other church.
Tbh, how can you even stop such actions..
Genuine question. Why do some Muslims enjoy so much turning churches into mosques when they end up being surrounded by imagery that would be considered heretic by Islamic norms? Wouldn’t they feel better in a Mosque built from scratch?
We should turn the kaaba into a church
When will people realize Islam is a problem that needs to be addressed?
Atatürk would turn in his grave…
Political Islamist fuckers have no concept or understanding of museum so this happens.
Fuck them.
What a shame. I have nothing against mosques, but build your own, don’t turn churches into them.

That would be a very shitty move

The Hagia Sophia and now this.
Does this mean that we can turn the https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%87elebi_Sultan_Mehmed_Mosque into a church?
U fuqin wat
Aaaaand they think they’re European.

Didn’t they do the same to the Hagia Sophia?
That’s fucked up.
