  1. Although I dislike these moves and agree that these buildings (Not only Chora, Hagia Sofia alike) should be preserved, the situation of ancient greek and roman heritage is still better than the preservation of the Ottoman heritage in Greece (or Balkans in general), so I’ll pass.

  2. The function of the building doesn’t matter much if they maintain it in it’s original state as much as possible.

If they really do erase it’s historical features, then it’s just another extremely irresponsible act of religious fanaticism and megalomania.

We should recognize international historical heritage and sanction those that mishandle what they are responsible for. I hold the opinion that historical heritage belongs to everyone on earth.

  3. Are they destroying anything? Or are the just calling it mosque from now on?

  4. It was ALREADY turned into a mosque in 16th century. All its heritage and interior has been well-preserved. All of its Orthodox Christian and Islamic afflictions are protected as it is.

  5. They should let these historical buildings stay….as they are.

New mosques can always be built….

Without destroying or converting older buildings./churches/ structures

  6. Typical insecure Turks.

Of course nothing will come of this and the world will forget in three months.

  7. So what they gonna do? Hang a few curtains, place a few carpets here and there?

  8. This has been happening for 1000 years, why would it stop now. Anatolia used to be greek lands, especially the coasts until at least WW1, but nobody even knows anymore because the “cultural conversion” has been so effective.

  9. It’s not erasure…it was already a mosque for a couple centuries. They are changing its status from museaum to mosque…like Hagis Sophia

  10. Is it time?

    Deus vult?

Just for nostalgia and to bring some memories back…

  11. Stop being obsessed with the past. The future is now old men.

  12. Yeah, but let’s divert all our anger towards countries who keep stuff safe and accessible in museums because they keep their stuff on the wrong bit of the world.

  13. Time to convert mosques in europe into christian churches

  14. Pathetic. Doing this symbolically Islamist virtue signalling bullshit shows just how out of ideas and solutions for his country’s problems Edeogan really is.
