  1. Nothing like surfing the waves under the Bavarian sun

  2. The California of Europe : I was holding my breath until I saw ‘ *technology*’ … sigh of relief.

  3. Bavaria has insane tech, the big tech companies from California have a stronghold here and invest heavily into universities and every week there is an initiative or so!

  4. Munich already has the cost of living nailed, so … we’re ready.

  5. After recently holding up an ex-governor of California for some hours at Munich airport, there may be a problem…

  6. No. Germany does not have the American “can do” mentality (but has other qualities of course). There’s a reason why there’s no German Google, space X, Apple etc etc. Source: I’m a German American who lived for decades in both countries.

  7. The California of Europe is Barcelona.

    – both love the concept of independence.

    – filled with lots of touirst

    – lots of low end crime (california has drugs, Barcelona has pickpockets)

    – everyone thinks that both places are the capital of their country, or the better region of the whole country (hence the tourism).

    ____________

I’m also just joking around, please don’t take my comment that seriously.

  8. I work for a big tech company from Munich and it’s all smelly outdated passionless consulting for car companies, insurance companies and banks and their micro managed scrum bullshit business software.

  9. Nah, Bavaria is the Texas of Germany. Religious, an active independence movement, and always looking out for its own special interests.

  10. Bavaria is the Texas of Europe.

Hot weather and hot people are missing.

    Religion is plentiful.

  11. Now I’m just imagining a bunch of Bavarians with valley-girl vocal fry.

  12. if y’all don’t have the occasional talk about a cataclysmic earthquake that could strike at anytime without warning, then no

  13. Wait – so our King Maggus is branding us as California of Europe, promoting tech startups but then cutting down English in elementary school to keep bible class? lol

  14. Not a single region of EU can become like Silicon Valley with high taxation, relatively low salaries and lack of VC money.

  15. Lol! Bavaria is for the most part a very conservative Catholic state with some pretty backwards ideas on marriage equality and recreational drug use. So, no.

  16. I work in tech and Germany does have a nice tech presence especially in EMEA.

However, their market is very specific. They tend to run really good companies but they are very German culturally.

They also aren’t going to be able to attract tech talent the way Silicon Valley does or even cities with sun in the south of Europe.

  17. So there is internet connections and you can actually pay without cash?

Sounds pretty futuristic in german standards.

  18. All I’m seeing is the usual CSU talk. What happened to the Bavarian space program anyway?

  19. Germany and innovative tech. Lol. This is a country that is still to adopt the internet & email over the fax machine.

  20. Do you want an army of lobbyists to kill the GDPR? Because this is how you get an army of lobbyists to kill the GDPR.
