I suppose there is no way you’re beating a Luas from hueston to Connolly in a car.
Cork to Dublin by train can be faster compared to car, depending where in Dublin you want to go.
The obvious one would be the Tarbert to Killimer ferry across the Shannon estuary. It’s a 20 minute ferry journey compared with almost 2 hours in the car.
Magilligan to Greencastle ferry 15 mins or about 1h 30mins via Derry.
Basically the whole dart line. During rush hour, all light and heavy rail in Dublin is faster than driving. Most decent Bus routes are faster too. For most of the day cycling is by far the fastest way to cross the city
Much of the dart line I would think.
As an example Raheny to Connolly is twice as fast on the dart compared to driving.
Could be many of them if they maintained and expanded the rail network.
You missed the part where there is an announcement that due to a faulty signal at a crossing, the DART is currently delayed, then subsequently cancelled.
So no way is that actually going to take 6 minutes.
That’s if it’s on time or not cancelled altogether.
The train is pretty reliable too compared to other transport around this neck of the woods but you’re looking at an hour wait on Sundays, a bit of rain and 15 mins late.
I never drove until I moved out of the city centre. Think I lasted 2 months in north county Dublin before I bought one.
I’d sooner get the train from galway to dublin than have to drive through their respective traffic
Greenore to Greencastle. 60mins by car. 20 mins by ferry.
Any train through an urban area probably. Your standard metro line (or equivalent system with a high density of stops) will average about 30 km/h, which is course slow but much faster than your typical city traffic.
They need to put a foot bridge over the estuary alongside the tracks.
OP really did not think this through, yes our transport is shit but where the trains/luas are, it’s always going to be faster than the 10 turns and 5 traffic lights that come with a 1km car journey.
This is only the case when you ignore the walk to the station, the wait for the train and the walk from the next station. And any cancelled trains.
I think on average trains will beat a car from station to station. The problem arises only when you’re not travelling to a train station…
