Wages expected to surge 5%-10% this year as inflation continues to rage

  1. There are a lot of us in jobs that have zero government support and we won’t see any increase. The gap in wealth is ever growing.

  2. I cannot complain, after 5 years of 1-2% raise, in ’21 i got 36%. It would be nice if ’22 will follow the same but I seriously doubt 😀

  3. My company issues its payrises in Feb/March for implementation in March payroll, very much interested to see what happens. Got about 8% salary bump last year which I was absolutely fine with, my bonus has gone up by 5% for 2022 which again was very welcome, and would hope for 5%+ salary for this year as well.

Everything is just getting more expensive so if your pay doesn’t go up you are in real terms getting a paycut.

  4. The cost of housing due to lack of supply needs to be addressed. If wages rise without that then renting and buying homes will just become more expensive because people will pay more to get somewhere.

This will just make the landlords more wealthy, those that have homes will have more disposable income but the gap between rich and poor will increase.

If you are struggling to meet your basic need of shelter, you’re about to struggle more. While everyone with homes already will feel wealthy.

  5. If inflation is so high should I just enjoy life a bit and spend some of my savings on a car or something? I’ve enough cash for a deposit for a house (living in the North) but don’t really want to buy for a few years.

I know inflation should mean I save more to compensate but it’s just a bit demoralising!

  6. I got a 0.8% pay raise in March 2020 and a 3.0% raise in March 2021.

Hopefully this follows an exponential pattern and I’m due an 11.25% raise this year and a 42.2% raise in 2023.

  7. Last year my company paused all raises and gave everyone an inflationary raise of 0.8%

Let’s hope they do another inflation raise this year. Although I suspect they’ll go back to their usual 1.5% and I’ll get the opportunity to hand in my notice.

  8. I got an 11 percent raise and then in June I will also hopefully be getting another 11% raise if I play my cards right.

  9. Not expecting to see anything like this, wishful thinking for most of say too. Prob time to move on if it is common though

  10. They should really ramp up the social welfare payments and minimum wage while they have a chance.

It’s all good and well in certain sectors and I know some folks have had substantial increases, but there are also many, many people in sectors like retail, hospitality and leisure who are getting hopelessly left behind. WFH has exacerbated this even further as those are precisely the sectors most likely to not be able to WFH while already having the lowest pay.
