  26. Losing the dependency on the US might offer the EU a chance to emancipate themselves from their big brother across the Atlantic and find their own identity. However, shunning the US and replacing it with a dependency on Russia or China would be a huge mistake.

  41. What will happen if Trump wins in November:

    He will abolish US democracy and install himself as dictator, he will pull out of NATO, impose sanctions on EU countries and drive the US into isolationism.

    EU/NATO countries will expell US military personnel from its territory. Russia will attack the Baltic states, Poland and Finland. The EU will start the process of decoupling from the US and countries like Germany, Poland and the Baltic states will start developing their own nuclear weapons and EU countries (except for the Netherlands who are too stingy) will massively invest in their militaries and in their defense industries. EU countries, under massive economic and military pressure from Russia/China, will have no other choice than to start the process of European federalization and become a unified global player with its own economic and military allies.

    The other option is to just give up and let Russia hoist their flag in Lisbon. I would also argue that an inner-European military conflict between the liberal democracies and Orban-type of authoritarian states could happen.
