  1. He should have quit months ago. And Yousaf should now quit for knowingly covering up for the lying thief.

  2. When will Sunak resign after his disgusting anti British actions yesterday?

  3. Long past “about time”. An absolute pisstake that both him and Humza let it rumble on this long, and that neither of them seemed capable of doing the right thing.

  4. Humza Yousaf’s strategy seems to be getting humiliated at every turn. Take a stupid position, hang on to it for longer than it’s sustainable, then watch reality hit a few weeks down the line.

I don’t know who he has working for him, but he really should get some proper political and media advice.

  5. Bit late, damage is already done. Better late than never I suppose though.

Humza should still resign for covering this shite up

  6. Jumping before he’s pushed after the investigation comes to light.

An absolute embarrassment for the Scottish Government, and particularly Humza for continuing to support him instead of doing the right thing and sacking him after it emerged he lied.

  7. That’s a shame, as he was the only health minister in the UK to avert doctor’s strike action.

Allowing literally thousands of people to get potentially life saving health interventions.

  8. Will he still have access to his parliamentary iPad, because I used to use it as a WiFi hotspot and there’s an old firm game in April.

  9. Yousaf covered for him, knowing Matheson was lying.

    Yousaf should resign.

A Tory peer was prosecuted for a similiar claim. He was jailed for 12 months.

    Matheson should face the same.

    Liars and thieves.

  10. Sheer incompetence. Should’ve sacked him on the spot and the story would’ve died the next day.

Further proof that Hamas Yousless should be removed immediately.

  11. I wonder if there some DNA evidence found on the iPad casing which suggested something more than just football was being watched…

  12. What a talent for turning what could’ve been a fairly small cock up into a long running sore that leaves both his judgement and his boss’s looking awful.

  13. In spite of never having voted for them in my life, I’m apparently developing a reputation as an ‘SNP Shill/Apologist’ around here – with that in mind I’ll comment that it’s *ludicrous* Matheson tried to hold on this long, and he absolutely should have been pushed before he jumped.

Even if he genuinely thought he had done nothing wrong in ‘omitting details’ to ‘protect his children’, he must have all the common sense and political acumen of a concussed alpaca to not realise he needed to fall on his sword to protect his government the *second* he got caught in a lie, even a lie of omission.

…this is aside from the fact that I’m highly sceptical of even what he *did* eventually come up with. ‘Kids unknowingly rack up a huge phone/app bill’ is an extremely common and relatable story, and I can’t work out a truly rational explanation for why he felt he needed to ‘protect his family’ by hiding it. Nobody would have blamed his kids, and it wouldn’t have been a scandal in the eyes of anyone but the most rabid kind of anti-SNP columnist who could see a scandal in Humza Yousaf’s choice of salad at the Holyrood canteen. Hell I’ve said before that anyone with half a brain could have spun it into a positive –

*’I can afford to pay this bill, but an unexpected and accidental charge of this nature could place a working-class family on their holidays into sudden and catastrophic debt overnight. I’m petitioning the First Minister to launch an investigation into how we might protect Scottish people abroad from these kinds of predatory data roaming charges!’*

    There you go.

The fact he didn’t do this or at least tell the truth in the first place means he’s either an idiot, or worse he’s throwing his own children under the bus to cover the fact he spent six hours of his holidays on OnlyFans or something.

On top of all this, the fact that Yousaf was either unwilling or unable to make Matheson resign earlier or fire him outright reflects very poorly on his leadership. Again even if Matheson was honest and *everyone* internally thought they were doing the right thing, they should have recognised how it looked from the outside and nipped it in the bud.

  14. Yet another catastrophe and absolute embarrassment for the SNP.

So much stinks about this. Had he ‘fessed up and paid it straight away then fine, things can happen but no.

One of the things that stuck out to me was when the data bill was apparently challenged with the mobile provider they the Government just accepted it (11K). That’s no way to run any sort of finances. I’d be wanting a break down of when it was used at very least.

Humza getting a habit of blindly sticking by those in trouble. Making him look incredibly weak, naïve and stupid.

  15. The original story broke in, I think, the first week in November. It’s now the first week of February.

Am I too suspicious for thinking there’s something else behind this decision ?

  16. What a joke of a man.
More interested in his wallet than his country.

  17. Wonder how much he picked up in wages between it coming out and him resigning?

  18. Comical that a man resigns over an IPad bill – while down south a uk government actively trashes a country, is corrupt and costs billions in PPE during covid. Douglas ross should shut his trap – he has zero integrity or backbone

  19. Good, the fact the roaster tried to ride it out is a fucking disgrace. Politician fucks up? Out you go. Regardless of party.

  20. A hundred grand richer than if he’d just resigned when he first made the fraudulent claim. He might still end up being prosecuted though.

  21. When this first came out, I genuinely thought this would be an apology and review of internal policy kind of deal. Thought it would just die away, because it really felt like it was an IT policy fuck up allowing this to happen.

But he really did make it so much worse for himself.

What a boring scandal to cost you your job.

  22. Yeah, should really have done this at the start.

But then, there’s a lot he should have done.

  23. >*Mr Matheson said he was standing down because he did not want the row over the bill to become a distraction*

Good job he took prompt action, before this news hit all the papers and became a big story

  24. More like this pls!

Massive data roaming charges, and the stupidity around this whole thing should end his political career. What a tit.

Can we list any other things that should end your political career?
