I met with General Valerii Zaluzhnyi. I thanked him for the two years of defending Ukraine. We discussed the renewal that the Armed Forces of Ukraine require. We also discussed who could be part of the renewed leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

  1. That’s what reliable information looks like.

OK, let’s see who replaces Zaluzhnyi and what role will he maintain. It could end up OK or it could end up in real trouble.

  2. Kinda of cryptic message that could either mean removing or keeping Zaluzhnyi commander of the Armed Forced. This is not an official announcement of anything.

Is that picture from today, I couldn’t find it anywhere else. If so, that could mean Zaluzhnyi is actually staying (perhaps in a new position)

  3. Gee, I thought this was Russian propaganda. Told you so…

  4. It is common practice to change leads over time. Fresh minds = new opportunities.

Imagine sitting for 2 years constantly with this job. I would want to be changed out after 1. Amazing he did it so long already. I assume he will be advisor for the next one in line and make sure things are smooth and get some well deserved rest

  5. In another posting I read that Zaluzhnyi was offered to take part in the new leadership.

  6. I am. Ukraine supporter , but am concerned what we are seeing is a consolidation of power by the president and his Political party .

If this was a firing due to military performance or just wanting a new , fresh perspective , it should have happened months ago , after the failed counteroffensive .

You don’t want a wartime president surrounded by nothing but cronies and yes men .

Because then you become the very thing you are fighting against

  7. Sad situation but good to see Ukraine is 100% about stamping out corruption.

  8. Nice. Syrskyi is hardly the person to renew the AFU, Zelensky just replaces the better ones for more loyal ones. It’s unlikely it will make Ukrainian army stronger, so hopefully it will make peace closer.

  9. Didn’t they said, that the news of replacing Zalujnij are only rumours and it is not going to happen?
Are they the same breed as the russians?

  10. I think this is a mistake , but nonetheless I guess in a statemated war you have no choice but to try something , anything , that’s new.

  11. Well, he’s had 2+10 years to make this work and here we are. Some of the people under him have been caught for treason. I suppose it’s time for someone with maybe not such a trusting manner?

  12. For me this is not a good sign at all. I have the fear that Selensky is surrounding himself with “yes sayer” because usually it was Zaluzhnyi who stood up to Selenskys very restricted knowledge of the craft of war and painted a more realistic picture on the war. For success we should not live in a comfortable lie but in the harsh reality of war. Many of ukraines previous success had the clear handwriting of Zaluzhnyi i just want you guys to remember Siewerodonezk or Bakhmut for example while Selensky said that those cities are on the verge of getting reconquered and sending more troops, Zaluzhnyi wanted to collect troops and retreat them to the next defensiv line, which would have proofed to be the more sustainable tactic. Selensky needs to understand that sometimes you need go backwards in order to achieve your goals, he was the one pushing for a large scale summer offensive basically losing equipment and making us vulnerable in the winter, with a lot of western aid fading, we need to be more thoughtful with our resources and change into a momentum based and skirmish based war which selensky and basically bumping his head on a concret wall. Zaluzhnyi basically embodies everything about a great army, he donated prize money to fund the UAF. Ukraine needs to stay calm and united to win this war but this decision needs to be questioned. I hope i am wrong about this…

EDIT: As i read in this comment section, about the role of Zaluzhnyi as a leader Ukraine… Yeah he was offered the chair in the UN for Ukraine weeks ago but this would render him politically dead in domestic affairs.
