Quite a bold statement after the Zeitenwende in his speech from 2022 turned out to be a 360° one since they stepped back from the plans to increase defense spending to 2% of GDP. Its really disastrous when politicians only think about the next election and not about whats best for the country despite being an unpopular decision.
Maybe Sholtz should try to bribe some Republicans. It seems to work for Russia. Republicans will only change their position if you bribe them. That’s how they operate.
While true, it’s almost comical that Germany is preaching this now when they were the biggest enabler of Russian belligerence for so long.
They paid for the Russian gas pipeline directly into Germany – giving Russia tens of billions for their war chest. …and that was after they tanked their own domestic nuclear programme after Russian influence in German politics helped kill all nuclear plants – further making ALL of europe more dependent on Russian gas.
It’s fucking insane. Germany was #1 the biggest ally to Russia for the last two decades.

There are two ways to become better than others – by becoming better, and by worsening others.
Societies become better by Rationalism, Humanism (Rational Humanism), Secularism, Rule of Law, Democracy, Freedoms, first of all – Freedom of Speech (information transaction costs), and so on.
In 19-21st centuries, Russia (Moscow bureaucracy) could partially compensate absence of such society-development factors by enormous demographic/natural resources. So it purposefully reduced their quantity/quality in other nations/countries without access to such compensations. Decreasing their overall Human Capital, competitiveness, success. And by this, relatively, rising Russia owns, mainly purchased from the West.

USA of the past – USA that was getting better by ways by which almost all societies become better.
Modern USA – USA after it copied NKVD-like Political Realism and started stepping back from its own fundamental ideals/principles and Wilsonianism. Become another victim of Russian influence. Even after collapse of USSR, because of soviet poison, losing Cold War.
Sadly we’re at a moment in history when the blazingly obvious has to be explained. Again, and again, and again.
Then stop buying Russian oil and derivatives…
Then send the TAURUS and stop fearing “EsCaLaTiOn”

Grant Shapps, UK Secty Defense articulated the danger very well when he recently pointed out that by allowing our national and international institutions, alliances and norms to decay away we’ve moved away from the “post-war” era into the “pre-war” era.

Russia has been at war nonstop for the past 500 years. It played a key role in provoking two world wars. It’s major two exports are oil and weapons. Did we expect something else ?
Well, I guess the German military should start doing something.
It seems that Europe has to start operating with the assumption of the U.S. being out of the picture. A country that fails to support a just war that directly undermines one of its two main military rivals, promises to support Ukraine and then stops doing it due to election season, is simply not a reliable aly.
