There is not a single reason why Syria couldn’t become the most successful country in the World. So Americans, Japanese, Canadians, Israeli, Finns would be ready to fight each other for the right to become citizens of Syria.
All that was needed for this – just full-fledged investments in Rationalism, Humanism (Rational Humanism), Secularism, Rule of Law, Democracy, Freedoms, first of all – Freedom of Speech (information transaction costs).
Things that made successful countries successful.
So all modern Syrians will know Academic Logic, Cognitive Distortions, Logical Fallacies, Defense Mechanisms, and basic of Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology.
Instead, power in Syria was given to a man who “learned how to fly in the USSR.” And soon Syria has become the same as almost all Soviet and Russian allies. Having Russian flaws, but without Russian natural resources compensation mechanism.

Good old syrian revolution. They don’t talk about how they fought with IS early in the war and al-Qaida after that. Perhaps they should talk about those savages as well.
