Or gains. Idk positive.
Ukraine has to retake land to win this war. A shit ton of it. New guy allegedly has shown he can do that. Time will tell, change had to happen but obv not sure this is it.
As long as the change is done with appropriate acknowledgement and respect. Mr Zelensky is going to be on the hook whatever happens. The buck stops with him as it used to be said.
He’s the war time President. He’s been responsible all along and Ukraine has done far better than anyone predicted.
If it was personal Zelensky is taking a huge risk. Fair chance he wil lose to him in an election
>**He will now be held personally responsible for any future military setbacks**
And this is a change from before …. how?
I have a feeling he didn’t make this decision by himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if opinions from the U.S. and the UK or other western countries didn’t play into the change. Who knows, maybe he was corrupt and they didn’t want that to be made public for obvious reasons.
Oh no he removed the general who wasn’t winning and just complains about not having enough weapons, as if Zelensky isn’t constantly working for more.
The only one responsible for this shit show is Putin and his people
Perhaps Syrskyi will be like MacArthur. Generals who are/were unpopular with their troops and with stains on their records. However, for MacArthur, he had enough political capital with those in power to get things done in the end. Perhaps Syrskyi will be the same or maybe not. As others have mentioned, time will certainly tell, and I hope it’s for the best for Ukraine.
So, just like before? It’s not like he could come and say “it’s not me, it’s him” about a person he appointed
He is not the president who shy away from responsibility. He is the head of State. He is going to be responsible for any outcome. I guess he doesn’t want to be responsible for losing war for not making necessary changes.
It’s war. He’s staking his own life and the lives of his people on battlefield success anyway. It’s not like he can bail at the last minute like Putin surely will.
I think it is fair to say UA needs a new strategy. Right now, they are slowly losing both land and foreign support. New leadership can be blessing or curse, so we will see how it plays out.
The dismissal doesn’t signify he was performing badly either. He did a great job to get UA to where it is today – alive but bleeding.
a failed mission, someone has to go
I have Ukrainian friends who have described a bit of a rivalry between the two over the last couple of months. The way they explain, it sounds like a popularity contest vs. a need for new leadership. I have been curious about how other Ukrainians perceive this. The picture following their meeting looks friendly enough but as an outsider, I don’t know all of the issues. I’d love some more insight.

Good and short phase explanation by Ryan
Zaluzhny was a great commander who is well respected by Ukrainian people. But 2 yrs into this war with the current stalemate, I think President Zelinsky did the right thing to replace him and jump start the offensives against the Russian occupiers.
Eh, not true. Zaluzhniy is good, but it was Syrskyi who orchestrated the Khakhiv breakout. He’s very talented. so is Zaluzhniy but Zaluzhniy seems defensively minded. the right commander to hold ground but when it comes to taking it, others might be better. You need both kinds of leaders but it might be time to put the offense guy on top rather than the defense guy.
One thing for sure, Zaluzhniy is definitely not done with the war. He’ll find a role to play that uses his talents. He may even end up in overall command again as the needs of the war change. He’s not being dismissed for incompetence, and unlike the Russians as they come and go he’s in in disgrace it’s just someone else’s turn.
