Legally speaking if this went to court hes fucked…
self defence laws here are all about reasonable force, which he FAR exceeded. He could claim the fella threatened him, which COULD justify the initial round of blows. However, once lad was on the ground, he went way outside of what he was allowed to do. Add to that at the end of the video, they start dragging him off instead of waiting for garda etc hes got basically zero defence.
Injury speaking, the fact that the lad is unconscious/limp for an extended period of time could be a list of potential injuries. However, head/spinal injuries could be on top of that list.
All in all, if you’re going to deal with a thief, dont post yourself committing a crime online and/or share it anywhere. If the thief decided to follow this up, the van owner would likely come off worse with how our laws work

Van owner giving a massive impression that he’s been on the wrong side of the law himself at some point. The reaction and aggression was off the chart. May as well have done a full American History X on it
I have to say, don’t care if it makes me a bad person or not, watching that is borderline cathartic all the same. It beats the usual story of ‘thief with 609 previous convictions getting a suspended sentence’. Anyone robbing like that deserves whats coming to them and its a risk they run when they go down that road
