Seems prudent enough, but will need time for detailed White Papers too.
Have they even considered or debated any of the details or logistics involved? Probably not, let’s have a referendum.
Ireland’s brexit where no one knows the implications but feels very strongly one way or the other.
Ridiculous hyper excitement by SF. They need to be told to calm down a bit. Such talk is more likely to slow their ambition rather than achieve it. In fact the main momentum needs to come from anywhere/everywhere other than Sinn Fein then they can simply say “look it’s time for the will of the people to be expressed”.
Data was predicting this article not actual independence.
What is the benefit in these statements? They only serve to stoke fires. Wait a fucking year at least so the assembly can find its bearings
So Data lied to us?

I do not see the first Labour government in years being the ones responsible for breaking up the union. No way their Northern Ireland secretary goes for this unless its close to a sure thing.
She needs to chill, would be better off focusing getting into government first.
For context, the Brexit vote was seven and a half years ago. Look at how long that took to sort out. Sinn Fein reckon we’ll have everything lined up and ready to go for unification in six?
We can’t have a sensible discussion about some of the most basic questions in relation to a unified Ireland without one side or the other baring its teeth. (New flag, anyone?)
Not sure SF are making themselves sound credible with this proposal. Reunification should happen after a long, well thought out and prepared process. There isn’t actually a rush – demographics will eventually give a nationalist majority. Getting it done by 2030 makes it more likely to fail.
It’s still amazes me to see all the people wondering why they’re mentioning it now or wondering why give targets without fully understanding the implication.
Don’t people get that united Ireland is their top goal, objective, priority or whatever else you call it. It’s their reason for existing.
It’s seems like we have a country full of people telling themselves otherwise. If you want a government to make getting the ball rolling on a United Ireland ahead of anything else, then SF are your party.
Whos referendum? The Republics or Northern Ireland?
Its not our place to decide when Northern Ireland should unify. Even Unfication is the wrong word to use. We would need to create a new state embracing ands representing both sides of the debate.
There’ll never be unification. All we’d get is another version of the Northern Ireland Assembly, only the Irish will foot the bill rather than the Brits.
Fuck that.
In over their heads
Lots of people from this sub flock to posts like this in order to make Sinn Féin out to be bad guys for wanting unity. Anything to try and keep the old guard in power, the parties who haven’t done a lick for Republicanism since the 1930s.
Lots of cushy govt jobs, low property prices, low taxes on cars, low taxes on alcohol, don’t need to pay €70 to see a GP, attractive investment options like no deemed disposal, £6K tax free personal allowance (used to be £12.3K), better street cleaning and no privatised bin collection
What’s SF promising people up in the North to vote for them beside feels ? I think SF could at least start promising to match some of the better benefits
This isn’t helpful in NI right now. Michelle O’Neill is trying to be statesmanlike by reassuring unionists, and earning respect by her attitude. So maybe layoff this kind of completely meaningless talk for a while, even if you’re down in the polls
I fear it would be a little too soon. Though a lot can happen in 6 years good and bad.
