Get this feeling of deja vu.
Sure I’ve seen this before.
A consensus needs to be met. This cannot happen if both sides don’t approach with good faith.
One side is debating, the other are fighting to keep their rights and in a real sense for their lives.
Well done Wes. We need more people (especially those who’ve been involved with LGBT rights in the past, they’re less likely to be ignored) to stand up and say she’s being treated unfairly and this isn’t a one sided debate where the other side are extremists who should be cancelled.
I think it’s important a discourse can exist.
Most people know very little about trans issues and the only path to equal rights and a more trans-friendly culture, comes through education and being exposed to a different perspective.
This can only happen in an environment where it’s okay to make a mistake, be clumsy with your language or get something wrong.
Fear of being labelled a bigot stops well meaning people from even engaging on these issues, and that needs to change for the benefit of the trans community.
Progress in society takes time, you can’t force change overnight.
Seeing people comment on trans issues in this country is like a time capsule to comments on gay rights 30 years ago.
