  1. Zoe Grunewald:

    • Rishi Sunak is planning a general election for the first two weeks of October, *The Independent* understands.

    • One source said a November election was a “non-starter” because of the noise a US election would generate likely drowning out any Tory messaging in the final weeks of campaigning.

    • An October general election would disrupt party conference season – a time which has typically been used by parties to bring in cash for campaigns.

    • But the Conservatives are unlikely to be concerned about their finances after having brought in £16.5 million in donations in the last few months.

  2. I’m waiting for… “rishi plans early election in January 2025”

  3. I’m sorry what?

We’re timing our elections around those in other countries now? Bizarre.

  4. “We’re doing the same policies as Trump, but he’s going to make it super obvious that they’re fucking stupid.”

  5. Plenty of time for the country to go further down the toilet.

  6. October?!? We’ve got to limp on under this shambles of a government until OCTOBER?!?

Just put us out of our misery, FFS.

  7. March would be too long to wait! By October, fuck knows what state the nation will be in. It’s corruption every day with these cnuts!

  8. Rishi Sunak trying to synchronise UK elections with the US “Election Cycle” in order to gain the greatest benefit from the huge expenditure on US Electoral Advertising. So the Party can cherry pick issues from the PACs that are “playing well on the internet” in order to get “free advertising”. By targetting October, the Conservatives not only deprive Opposition Parties of a significant fund raising opportunity but also makes the concept of long and short money fairly irrelevant. All that will happen is parallel messaging will begin to happen between US and UK “Conservatives” during the preceding months with an awful lot of po-faced “I have no idea what you are talking about” when people point out the coincidence between talking points both sides of the Atlantic.

The whole point is to weaken political opposition so much that, even if Labour gets elected, the “Advertising Audience” will be primed to return “on brand” as soon as possible. Already Sunak is cycling through the possible achilles heel options for Starmer with accusations that he is a terrorist sympathise – same playbook as with Corbyn. You might not like Corbyn but just look at the endless series of accusations made before one stuck. Same will happen with Starmer.

The Conservative Friends of America and the Conservatives Abroad and the Party Within A Party, The NatCons, will all do their bit. Because it is so easy to ride the benificence of American Political Spending when you are the Right Politics.

  9. Fuck that, let’s have ours early. There’s a lot of people to shift out of jobs and we need to get it done asap.

  10. Should be earlier than that but then again these bunch of tories are nothing but useless bussiness men hellbent on siphoning money into their pockets. They’re all scum who will never face repercussions

  11. Going on past the May locals might be difficult. If the expected wipe out happens then it’s going to be a long hard summer break for Rishi and the calls for him to go will only amplify. The sensible time is at the same time as the locals but you can bet your life he won’t do what is sensible

  12. I don’t get why we can’t just have one in May when the other elections take place?

It’s not like the Tories are going to do well in either one.

  13. I think in national interest and not party politics, this is absolutely necessary.

  14. October so basically the last possible point he can hold out for as he is doing so poorly.

  15. > One source said a November election was a “non-starter” because of the noise a US election would generate likely drowning out any Tory messaging in the final weeks of campaigning

oh right, of course. Because the yank hold their election in the UK! how could i have forgotton? Silly me! 😉

This is such a pathetic excuse for holding on to power.

  16. Man’s treating an election like choosing a dress for night out, he doesn’t want the wear the same dress as his girlfriends

  17. Just call it now you coward so we can bin you and your cronies
