EU border agency says stopping migration is impossible

  1. Of course stopping migration is impossible, but I’d also be happy with a 99% reduction. Or even 95%.

  2. It’s possible if there was will to actually do border control

  3. If only we had a navy capable of diverging small boats overflowing with migrants.

    Oh wait

  4. I wonder why we spend so much to deal with migrants. Let them come, the allure of europe will go way down, and then they ‘ll stop wanting to come. Problem fixd

  5. Of course it’s possible.

We just don’t want to kill people trying to cross our borders illegally.

  6. Diplomats and politicians opened a few books while the borders also remain fiction.

  7. well, you wont be able to sunk all boats, but you can at least try

  8. It had been perfectly possible until morons came to power.

  9. Ok, let them use goods others pay for. Paying taxes for someone else is a kewl thing, no?

  10. Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable.

  11. Yet Poland control every inch of it’s border with bielorussia.
The Baltics are doing the same with Russia.

Finland is in the process of doing the same with Russia.

it’s just a question of will.

  12. Certainly its not possible with generally laughably low numbers of officers Frontex is now fielding, or even has plans to field in future.

  13. Disband Frontex, it’s a ferry and taxi service that makes the problem worse

  14. EU border agency is probably the most incompetent organisation on the planet, so they surely can’t

  15. Well if you create open pathways with easy access and unwillingly (hopefully) help human trafficking.. yes stopping is impossible. Controlling it tho is far easier if you do what borders are supposed to do .. while still helping refugees and people..

  16. First of all: factually false.

This said, of course we can’t stop immigrants, poor pepole seeking a better life and risking their life.. what should we do.. kill them? Condemn them? Let them die?

So since stopping immigration is “”impossible”” on the surface.

This said, if we just go a bit deeper (a thing that these days people are unwilling to do and prefer to consider only surface level reasoning) we see that there are nonviolent possibilities. Namely the simplest one is: help African countries grow and stabilize.

Now it’s not easy to do this, not since we should not (as single states) bicker with other nations’ internal affairs, we have been doing it far too much, far too long (and some of us still do it.. right.. hmmm France?). But there are other ways. Both nonpoliticacal help (for example universities bridging together) and political ones, for example if UN was somewhat relevant.. but they aren’t.

Luckily someonehere is trying to put something akin to UN, but way more relevant…

  17. Europe has weak man on command, hard times coming.

  18. Many people In this thread really need to take a good look at a map, focus on the scale and scratch their brains a little before speaking about countries not willing to protect their borders.

  19. This is something that’s very similar on the us Dia ussiom as well. In many respects, they can’t do anything to stop it in the current context. Because the law allows every person a chsnce at asylum. There’s a very simple solution. Make them apply abroad. That’s it. There consulate all over. Have an asylum claim? Fine make it. But change the law so they must do it abroad.

  20. Good thing thay they control us the EU citizens at the airport

  21. They need to make it possible, otherwise Marine Le Pen will be elected and will make it possible. Sorry this upsets people, it upsets me, but its the truth.

  22. well when big corporations reap the benefits of cheap labor of course not.

  23. I mean thats true. You cant ever guarantee that 100% of people who try to get in will be stopped, thats just being realistic.

  24. Frontex head Hans Leijtens should resign or be fired. If you can’t do your job then let someone in that can. Utter failure.

  25. It is possible. Deploy drones with cameras and instant aerial assault or artillery fire or troops. Done.

  26. The problem is not that the protection of the border is weak. The problem is that the right to asylum is too strong. I think what should really be done is to abandon the existing asylum conventions and replace them with something more up-to-date. I think the main part which should be changed is that refugees loose their status when they commit crimes (not petty crimes but robberies, assault, rape, repeated theft). Loosing the refugee status should result in loosing the rights to move freely. People who loose this status should be brought to refugee camps outside the EU where they wait until it is possible to return home. In return the counties hosting these camps on their land receive development aids and all resources to maintain these camps.

Another thing I would change is that we need more incentives to integrate. Right now all refugees are treated equally. I think we should accelerate the process for refugees who try to integrate. Such indicators are learning the language, having a job, if not able to find a job beneficent work.

While the measures I suggest sound all more restrictive than the current situation I think that we should also loosen up existing obstacles and stop removing asylum seekers which try to integrate and have a job. I think that asylum seekers who never commit crimes, were able to learn the language and finance themself with a job before their application is denied (which can take very long currently) should be allowed to stay. Europe needs good working people and we should stop to obstruct our own economy by sending back refugees who want to work and want to integrate. This would safe a lot of costs related to sending them back and would profit everyone.

  27. Who do not want to solve it will find an excuse, who wants to solve it will find a solution.

And they are surprised that far right is rising. Ha ha.

  28. I mean they aren’t wrong, but if we stop giving them handouts then it certainly seems less enticing.

Currently somewhere that has an insanely high migration rate per capita (I think it’s the highest in Europe.)

There is no less than 4 hotels full of migrants in a small village of around 250 residents during the winter, their rent and electricity is paid for, AC units on 24/7, they get food stamps and walk around with iPhones and designer clothes, a lot have started to buy cars.

Most work illegally and due to location, you see them when scrolling social media showing off what they have and bragging how it’s easy to come here.

The amount of scams has also gone through the roof, it’s almost impressive.

I just don’t understand how if a regular Joe breaks the law we go to prison, but people who illegally enter a country are given everything?

  29. In the US, if the federal and state government allowed, there would be a convoy of guys with trucks, tents, loads of food, even more ammo and guns and have them pointed and ready to fire at anyone trying to walk the border.

In Europe all you’d need is the maritime forces sending back people coming in rafts and small vessels and tell those organizations that send ships to pick those same would be migrants to piss of. I can’t recall the movie but the line “shoot the bastards, that’s my policy” stuck with me.

  30. Until these traitors are governing the EU nothing is possible.

  31. Well, if EU legislation makes it impossible, then change the EU legislation so it is possible.

  32. Cant stop migration.

In unrelated news, Europe to spend billions to protect borders from Russian troops migrating west.

  33. here’s my two cents takes stop robbing Africa to the point they have to leave their own countries at first place

  34. True, migrations have always been a thing in Europe, like historically – the Great Migrations of Germanic peoples, of Slavs, of the Romani people as well, etc. They are a natural course. Even today, a ton of Balkans and Eastern Europeans migrate to Western and Northern Europe. Anyone who thinks they can completely stop them is delusional.

However, that doesn’t mean they can’t be regulated.
