  1. Yeah, if anyone wanted confirmation it’s about attacking labour not about the welfare of people in Gaza then here it is.

  2. interesting development. a number of labour MPs who abstained on the original motion have since publicly called for a ceasefire – if the SNP end up forcing another vote, surely those same MPs will follow their conscience & actually vote for a ceasefire?

  3. So the SNP official media outlet is confirming they are just using Gaza as a means to attack Labour?

  4. Any chance you could govern the country rather than hold votes for no reason other than political point scoring.

  5. I hope there is a ceasefire before then. Reports of negotiations ongoing, and even Biden tiring of Netanyahu.

  6. > The National understands the party may use a scheduled opposition day debate in the Commons later this month to call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Key thing about opposition day debates

    > The outcomes of votes on opposition day motions are not considered legally binding

  7. Those who were standing with Israel from the start in politics are now bending to the horrified howls of a watching world. Even the yanks are starting to bow to pressure and warning the Israelis to tone down the horror.

Anyone now who stands behind Israels’ actions or abstains on a vote can only expose themselves to being callous and indifferent to child murder and genocide.

It’s noticeable how Scotland and Ireland were among the first to see it for what it was from the start so Scots politicians as a whole should be representative of that. Labour MSPs who toe Starmers line and abstain will only be putting Westminster orders and whipped compliance and personal ambition before that representation.

The phone calls from management down south to the northern head nodders would be interesting to hear.

  8. Do they think this will translate into votes at the GE? I know most folk want an end to the killing in Gaza, but I can’t see this being a big issue in the GE.

  9. Cause the Israelis and palestinians are gonna stop fighting and put aside years of conflict cause the snp said “can’t we all just…. Get along?” Or is it just the snp will try and do anything to distract people from their complete lack of competent policies and criminal activities while wasting millions of pounds on pointless foreign vanity projects so the snp can roleplay as being important

  10. Expect Hasbara trolls. This topic completely warps this sub.

  11. I didn’t know the SNP had any control over than the situation. Why didn’t they do something sooner?

  12. Labour shouldn’t have anything to worry about. It’s just a vote on whether they think the mass slaughter of civilians, the devastation of civilian infrastructure and driving a population from their homes should go on. Their leader was a human rights lawyer. He knows how important these things are.

  13. So the British military is currently bombing Gaza? No, you say?
Does the Scottish have their own independent military that’s doing it? No.
Okay, that must mean the SNP has strong influence on the country at war with Hezbollah in Gaza, right? No, you say again.

Then what could a ceasefire vote by the SNP accomplish? Yes, good talk, have a good day.

  14. I hope someone will motion for hamas to do the honourable thing and surrender.

  15. I don’t get the point of this vote?

What are they going to do to write a very sternly worded letter?

  16. Hang on folks, I think I see the problem here.

The house of commons debating what is easily the most contentious foreign policy issue and exploring how the UK responds to it, is what parliament is for.

Neither the SNP nor any other UK party or the UK government itself need to have magic peace making powers to make this a good and worthwhile exercise.

  17. Can we vote that when I piss into the wind it won’t blow back into me?
