There are 85 trains in the Central line fleet and 71 are needed during the morning and evening peaks. But on Wednesday morning only 54 trains were available – **17 fewer than required.**

No surprise that chronic underfunding and deferred maintenance will ultimately lead to a deterioration in service. People have been warning about this for several years now.
Piccadilly line closures starting from tomorrow are going to add to the shithouse of problems already.
That’s fine. I’ll just use the ever reliable Elizabeth Line🙃
Appreciate this sub will be scowling at the Tories for this.
But TFL did announce a vast budget surplus

Yet there is still under funding. Is it under funding or poor management of an aging system that never had an infinite lifespan.
There was also a surplus at the start of 2023.
That’s what happens when you have COVID times, and passengers deciding they can’t be arsed to go into the offices.
Breaking news: TFL are short on money to buy new trains, which would solve the problem as the other trains would be put on different lines to make up the shortfall.
Key word, non essential.
Also budgets for TFL, living on fare freezes was their choice. They preferred to sponge subsidies off the country rather than raise fares and live within their means. This again, was their choice.
Why should the country have continued to fund a city transport system.
Again, you fail on the point. Why didn’t TFL plan for this early last year? They didn’t.
Did TFL raise in negotiations for this bailout, the need to repair these trains in 4 years time?
