  1. Elmo is not a 4 year old child Wil, Elmo is a fictional character represented by some fabric.

  2. “I mean, it’s a doll, right?”

    “A doll!”

“No even a doll, a puppet, there’s a, there’s a guy, a guy on his knees with his hand inside this puppet!”

    “Right!”

“I mean how can anybody get this worked up about a…a….”

    “A puppet!”

    “Yeah, a puppet!”

  3. I think Larry would find “appalling, unforgivable, and despicable” to be compliments.

  4. From Wheaton’s article I thought it was a vicious looking attack.
It was not. He basically pie faced Elmo slightly.

Trauma is trauma though and we can’t always know what can set it off. That being said, the behaviours that Wheaton assigns to Larry David are horrendous and it is a manipulative attempt to paint Larry David as an abuser.

Poor behaviour by Wheaton and part of a pattern which has led me to not like him as a person.

  5. This is such an over reaction on Wil’s part. If anyone looks tone deaf, it is Wil Wheaton.

  6. I’m so confused about this whole thing! It seemed like Elmo/the puppeteer were in on the joke with Larry?

Like why are we having serious discourse over this?

  7. Some context:

“When I was growing up, my dad would grab me by the shoulders and shake me while he screamed in my face,” Wheaton wrote. “He choked me more than once. He was always out of control, always in a furious rage, and always terrifying. *I’m a 51-year-old man and my heart is pounding right now, recalling how I felt when I was a little boy who loved Grover the way today’s kids love Elmo.* So this appalling, unforgivable, despicable act hits more than one raw nerve for me, and I’m going to say what I wish I’d been able to say when this sort of thing happened to me.”

I’ll preface to say I like Wil, he’s been through some shit. I *feel* like a 900 word “vent” online is OTT, but that’s how you get attention and Wheaton often talks about his abuse.

Honestly I found it dumb and not funny, but maybe that’s just me not getting “the joke” of attacking Elmo?

  8. Wil Wheaton was super annoying on celeb jeopardy. Like when he was wrong he felt the need to explain how he wisely came to the incorrect conclusion. He’s so full of it

  9. Well, that’s certainly one way to reinsert your name into the national discourse.

  10. Am I wrong or did the actual Elmo puppet dude charged for sex crimes? I guess society (and Wil) draw the line at touching a puppet.

  11. I did not have Wil Wheaton chastizes Larry David over his fistfight with Elmo on my 2024 bingo card.

  12. Well “live long and suck it”…

Joke aside, I understand he has PTSD but this was a joke, everyone was in on it, and people should be allowed to joke. Larry David *is* funny, this reaction is way over the top.

  13. Geez I was wondering what Wil Wheaton was thinking about this

  14. Probably deliberate performativity by David to “confirm” his doctor’s excuse (ie, “crazy”) for avoiding military service😎

  15. It does make you rethink his stories about Shatner. I mean Shatner is an ass but was he an ass to Wheaton?

  16. Jesus. Isn’t there more important things to stand up for?

  17. After seeing the segment, then laughing my ass off, my immediate thought was, ‘So Will was *that* guy in high school…’

    Que drama club dramatics…
