Losing hope: Ireland’s pig farmers warn they can’t go on losing thousands a week

  1. Well were gonna text a trace the most needed pigs hearts.

I wish the man good but I don’t think it’s gonna work out to be honest

  2. Ireland’s national food supply must be protected. If that means subsidizing pig farmers, then so be it. The nation needs to always be self-sufficient in food production.

Ireland has a dark history related to famines in the 1800s. Over a million Irish are estimated to have died during that century due to starvation. Several million more left the country in search of better lives in America, Canada, and elsewhere. We never, ever want to see food problems in Ireland again. Ever.

EDIT: I don’t understand all of the down votes. Does that mean people think Ireland should not worry about its food security? And be self-sufficient? Seriously, I am totally confused by this.

  3. Problem here is that they sold out the co-ops to the big producers and now the big producers have drove the price they get paid down, the exact thing the Co-ops were set up to stop.

  4. The EU which is run by big business introduced regulations making it impossible for smaller abattoirs to operate. The result: a few large companies with a monopoly driving down prices farmers can get for their produce
