  1. All that talk about bringing back conscription when they can’t even recruit people who want to be there…

  2. With all the talk about conscription, I went and looked up the army medical requirements

    https://data.parliament.uk/DepositedPapers/Files/DEP2019-0604/Joint_Service_Manual_of_Medical_Fitness.pdf

… And quickly found three things that would instantly render me completely unfit for service of any description – even desk duties (P8). My partner would also be P8.

We’re in our 30s, walking around and quite capable of a desk job! I’ll grant you that we wouldn’t cut it in the infantry, but apparently we’d be completely useless even in the event of conscription.

  3. I don’t even get their ads anymore which I take as a pretty clear sign.

  4. They’re not gonna accept obese idiots are they

    Why is this a story?

If I applied for the Microsoft CEO job I don’t think you’d make a post about me would you

  5. Failed basic eligibility and commonwealth non-vaccine figures swapped between 20 and 21. Be interesting to know how many were also successful during the same periods and how many of those who were initially denied went on to successfully join. Not really sure what to make of these figures other than it seems quite high, but unable to make any sort or judgement without seeing other data.

  6. Biggest reason by far is just given as “medical”. Would be interesting to see a breakdown of this

  7. Yeah ffs, I wanted to join but got rejected because I didn’t have maths at school.

It felt like I was being interviewed by a corporate recruitment company rather than the army. Weird experience

I left school a lot younger than most people due to family problems.

I ended up going to college then getting into St Andrews univeristy.

    I did Applied Mathematics (hons)

It’s literally like a check list that if you don’t tick certain boxes they are like nope. Seems like some dumbass system.

🖕fu army I now work as an information security analyst

  8. Unless I have misunderstood, I’d get rejected on the basis that my eye refractive error was >6 diopters before the approved refractive surgery, although now it’s zero with 6/4 vision.

    Make it make sense.

  9. I’m 5ft 3 23 stone and got a false leg and they knocked me back so what chance has the average Joe🙄

  10. Despite my larger size I passed all the fitness as well as a few other test I never did my GCSE but I did have other higher qualifications that were counted.

Now I know the army do very test and there was one I did not pass even though I did not know I was being tested.

I was deemed unfit due to me having no empathy.

Funny enough I counted not join the police nor be a prison guard due to my lack of empathy.

But I was allowed to get an SIA license so I can stand at various entrance to places or patrol an area regardless of my empathy level.

I’m now good old for the army and even the reserves which do have lower requirements but my lack of empathy was still an issue.

  11. I dislocated my knee 7 years ago, a week before basic and I was told it could take 2 years to pass the medical again for the knee. I was literally back playing league 1 rugby 4 months later but capita didn’t care. I wouldn’t pass the medical now anyway.
