  2. Joke has had a wild political ride and crashed quite bigly, however they still seem to find a way to keep digging their hole a bit further lol.

  3. So she approved it in 2017 because there was no data that said PFOS was harmful. It only was known in 2018.

Why did it take until 2021 that the population was informed about this (and not even by the government)? Why didn’t she cancel the permission after 2018? Why were no measures taken after 2018? The ground was still polluted.

I find it astonishing that nobody in our government has the courage to take responsibility for something anymore. They’re all hiding behind smoke screens and lousy excuses. When is there going to be a politician who takes action even if it’s not their responsibility?

I’m not an expert but if[ a toxicological advice from 2017 says people shouldn’t eat eggs or vegetables from their garden](https://www.standaard.be/cnt/dmf20210611_97283986), it would seem to me that there clearly was risk to public health.

  5. Why are we still paying attention to this? I hoped PFOS would kill trees, but I was wrong. It’s the past, we can’t change it. We can still save the future but we have to act now if we want to stop the ents. It’s time to rid this world of trees once and for all.

  7. I think CD&V knows Schauvliege is burnt as fuck, so they are just going to use her as a scapegoat for pretty much anything they can. Why else would she insist on publicly making such an inflammatory statement? If she was thinking about a comeback, she’d have kept her mouth shut. Are they just telling her to take the fall for this, in exchange for some cozy board seats?

Also, she claims they didn’t know how dangerous PFOS were in 2017, but:

So even if they only realized a year after the facts that PFOS were dangerous, why the fuck didn’t they say “hold on, didn’t we conclude LAST YEAR that this populated area was safe because they were under a now outdated PFOS limit? Let’s communicate this now!”

  9. Sure, we all have a good laugh reading something like this. But in reality, this is saddening on so many levels it hurts.

  10. Bizar.

  11. Joke :

a thing that someone says to cause amusement or laughter, especially a story with a funny punchline.

  12. The people who were responsible for the environmental checks of 3M, said they received orders from above to not do anything with the result of the checks. Why is nobody examining this? Who is the “above” that ordered those people not to do their job. How much did “above” receive for helping an American firm pollute?
They all pretend like it is new information that PFOS is dangerous, but why would “above” protect a company from environmental checks unless he/she knows they are polluting? And several studies prove that even at the time it was already known to be damaging for humans and environment. Why do we let them get away with: “We didn’t know”? This is clearly a lie. Some politician(s) made big bank protecting a polluting company. This could also explain the very arrogant way 3M refused to give any answers when questioned in that commission. They feel untouchable, because they won’t go down without taking their political connections with them. So they know those connections will make sure this won’t happen. This should end with jail time for the responsible parties. People living around that 3M factory are going to die from the consequences of being exposed to this crap. This is highly toxic stuff.
I can live with the fact politicians give themselves a top 1% paycheck. It’s what you get when people can decide their own wage. I cannot live with politicians selling away other people’s health. And that’s exactly what happened here. And we all know nobody will get any significant punishment. And we all accept this and move on with our lives. How is it that politicians killing their own citizens (the politician(s) protecting 3M is responsible for every person who gets cancer as a consequence) is not enough to wake up people? Are we all really that numb?

Politically all is very quiet about PFOS. Covering up for each other.
