> NATO is moving forward with its plans to take over the coordination of arms supplies to Ukraine, which has been previously done by the United States, Handelsblatt newspaper reported on Feb. 9, citing government officials and diplomats.
>It was the United States that created the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein format), within which countries providing military support to Ukraine meet regularly at the American air base in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
> However, according to the newspaper, an alternative mechanism is being sought, in part because of concerns about Donald Trump’s re-election as U.S. president.
It is sort of destabilizing to the world that America’s commitments can no longer be expected to last beyond a president’s four year term.
That is a geopolitical gamechanger. If it works out, and I’d like to see this outcome.
Not surprising, you can’t rely on the US to do what’s best anymore. The beginning of the end of their Empire.
Smart move.
Admittedly, as an arrogant American, I like having *something* to show off to those cocky Europeans with their universal healthcare and effective gun control. The fact that we’ve been contributing so much to the defense of Ukraine and Europe as a whole has been a boon for me.
But I like a secure world population more. So, it would be nice to see the rest of NATO pick up the slack if we end up electing a shriveled mango as President again.
The MAGAs smile. Their nationalist vision is coming into focus.
And there it is. We have traitors in the group.
Well someone has to, since the magat morons have become traitors to Ukraine
That would make sense
Good. We are currently untrustworthy and there’s too much at stake.
Whats the difference? lol Thats like saying The Soviet Union wants to arm a foreign country instead Russia back in 1970
It’s a shame that it has come to this but republicans have given no other choice
If Trump is reelected, what are the expectations in regard to Ukraine? I keep hearing about accountability for funds and bashing on the slow escalation of available arms sent there from MAGA supporters. It’s like they expect Trump to get in and win the war for Ukraine and not abandon them. I’m a registered Democrat living in Oklahoma so it’s a little hard to get through the rhetoric I keep hearing.
I hope the US eventually withdraws from NATO and focuses on domestic issues instead. France,UK and Germany can handle the Ukraine situation on their own just fine.
I like how it says “instead” of the US, like NATO isn’t primarily funded, supplied and led by the United States.
This is absolutely the right move. The world can’t trust the US not to elect Trump. Even if that doesn’t happen, the makeup of congress can stall or ultimately stop support to our allies all because of political bickering. I’m glad to see the rest of the world stepping up and taking responsibility for their own defense. This will be needed for the coming shit storm in eastern Europe.
