ECOWAS calls for new vote date after President Sall postpones presidential election • FRANCE 24

There are so many uh unanswered questions at this point notably when will the election be held uh Echo us the regional block that you’ve already mentioned they’ve called for a election date to be set as soon as possible France has also uh issued calls other uh foreign uh Powers have also issued calls

For the president to give a fixed election date um it does put Sagal in a slightly strange position because Al is often at the Forefront of calls uh for other countries in the West African region um to kind of respect Democratic Norms notably uh as part of echo Sagal

Is always calling on countries like Mali ner Bina Faso um to respect civilian Rule and that’s kind of exactly the contrary as to what’s happening here uh other other unanswered questions is well notably surrounding the national dialogue that the president has called for uh what will this look like uh and will

It actually change anything for people here who are generally uh pretty frustrated uh with this latest announcement

West African bloc ECOWAS has called for a new election date to be set as soon as possible after Senegalese President Macky Sall indefinitely postponed the country’s presidential vote. France has called for Sall to give a fixed date for the election. FRANCE 24’s Sam Bradpiece reports from Dakar.
