Teenage girls walked around Stockholm with hand grenades in their bags

The investigation has failed to establish to whom the grenades belonged.

Two teenage girls walked around Stockholm in August with six hand grenades, the Swedish prosecutor says, according to Aftonbladet. Police have been investigating the movements of the 14- and 15-year-old girls around Stockholm on the basis of CCTV footage.

The girls were carrying working hand grenades in a turquoise bag from the Normal store chain, making it easy to distinguish the bag from the CCTV footage.

Prosecutor Jonas Nygren tells Aftonbladet that there is reason to suspect that the girls were holding the grenades on behalf of a criminal group. However, the investigation has not yet identified the group behind the incident.

In the café, a 14-year-old girl took several photos, and the turquoise bag is visible in all of them. The police suspect that the bag was deliberately chosen to appear in the pictures she took.

The girls then returned to the T-Centralen metro station and the bag has now been handed over to the 14-year-old girl. She got off the metro at Kista and continued her journey alone. From Kista she returned to T-Centralen and from there by bus and train to her home in Nynäshamn.

The next day, the 14-year-old girl’s mother found a Normal bag containing hand grenades in a desk drawer in her room. The shocked mother immediately informed the police.

The 15-year-old girl was recently sentenced to eight months in juvenile detention for an explosives offence. The 14-year-old in whose possession the grenades were found is not criminally responsible.

The incident took place on 12 August last year. A 15-year-old girl boarded a bus in the afternoon in northern Stockholm with a bag of grenades and travelled to the Kista Galleria shopping centre in the Kista district, where she met a 14-year-old friend.

The girls walked around the shopping centre and from there took the metro to the nearby Husby district. As the girls walked on the metro, they were surrounded by many people, including children. In Husby, the girls walked around and sat drinking energy drinks.

From Husby, they took the metro to central Stockholm, where they walked towards Sergel Square and the Old Town. The girls seemed to wander around the city centre without a clear destination, eventually stopping at a café on Vasagatan.

  3. How does a 14 and 15 year old girl acquire 6 hand grenades? In Sweden too?? If this happened in my country I would be way less surprised but still how the hell does this happen?
