  1. You are asking the question, will companies reduce their profits to help out their customers? This is a rhetorical question right?

  2. My bills never went up by a crazy amount so I don’t imagine it will change much downwards either

  3. I guess the market is a bit more complicated than that. Electricity companies have contracts and don’t buy at spot price. Also they act as sellers as well, not just as buyers on the market. So, in the end, it depends – that’s why the big difference in cantonal prices as well.

  4. Those are spot prices, they’re largely irrelevant to your bills.

  5. Not this year, no.

Electricity providers are allowed to modify their prices once a year near the end of the year. They need to communicate their planned prices to the *Bund*. They are then greenlighted (never heared something else btw).

Due to a serious panic modus during corona many providers felt “forced” to buy electricity in advance at high prices (in their mind in order to avoid even higher prices in winter). Which in turn raised the price you are asked to pay.

Well the higher prices did not manifest, *au contraire*. But you still get delivered your electricity at the agreed and communicated prices.

You pay for their former panic mode, in essence.

  6. I used to be very against solar panels from an economic perspective. Spikes like this have made me reverse my stance, and I have spent 42k putting them on my house (plus big battery).

It’s an insurance policy that will break even if there isn’t a huge additional spike. I half expect with 2050 net zero energy will get much more expensive.

  7. Oh hell no what do you think this is, a charity?
Out shareholders need to see some higher numbers than last quarter pay up!

  8. This january I just got my biggest electricty bill ever, with identical consumptions as until now. In valais.

So I assume that the answer to you question is: “Ha! Suck it, losers!”
