‘Peace, tranquility, freedom’: El Salvador looks set to re-elect popular ‘dictator’ Bukele

Quite an incredible election one of the most uh outweighted heavily weighted elections in favor of uh the incumbent we ever seen 80% he might win the vote by 80% so what you’ve seen is um over the his time in power this mass incarceration of suspected gang members one of the biggest Mass interments

Really we might see anywhere in world history where now 2% of the adult population in El Salvador in prison um and really bulldozing over due process over civil rights in this mass incarceration however people are generally really really in favor in this and to understand that I’ve been going

To El Salvador and and Reporting on this violence for 15 years you see this real you know incredible uh neighborhoods overtaken by gang members people being forced to pay quotas to The Gangs people you know women being raped brutally raped people being refusing to go be able to see their families in certain

Areas and what bell has done is liberated the neighborhoods for them so they now feel they can be free they obviously have some people including people whose family members are being incarcerated who are against him uh many journalists who have been kind of cracked down on and are now reporting

From outside of El Salvador but generally a massive support for his policies

There is an unfamiliar air of serenity in El Salvador’s capital, where voters head to the polls Sunday without the specter of gang violence and intimidation hanging over them for the first time in years.

  1. why you call him dictator people vote for him, that's why nobody want France and united states in their country anymore

  2. Here's a president who deeply care about his people by taking off the streets violent gang members and drug dealers to keep his country safe but yet still smeared and called a dictator because of that by France24 which means France24's angender is to see to it that a Latin American country like El Salvador should not be seen as a peaceful and clean nation. What a way to go!

  3. This was such a biased piece! BS too. You failed to mention that mostly right wing media, showed the wrong map, and that that two percent incarcerated had the rest of 98% living in fear

  4. I think he should stay in power as president as long he would not allow himself to be corrupted as the Clintons, the Bush family, the Obama and the Biden. I wish Bukele can become our president too. USA needs someone like him. Can I get the Citizenship in El Salvador? Refugee status maybe?

  5. First of all he is not a dictator, second criminals dont have rights, they did not care to kill innocent people daily, people lived in fear all the time. The peace and freedom you experience in El Salvador now is a blessing. Viva Bukele

  6. I was forced to leave my country at the age of 7, lost family members and hundreds of thousands of more people died due to the gangs that formed after most fathers were killed in El Salvador during the war- and families fled and were torn to pieces-I lost my home, my father to alcoholism because he lost everything during that war, I was in a foreign country most of my life- now this man has changed all of that- Bukele has won our trust and people are returning home in droves. Families are reuniting- there is peace for the first time in over 40 years!- and YOU call that a dictatorship? YOU who have enjoyed peace all your lives. Give me a break- I love my country and God has blessed it finally now that the people have stood against those fake politicians who sold our lives to war or gangs for money….let us enjoy our beautiful land finally and we invite you to come and enjoy it too – we are so happy 🎉🎉🎉
