I am surprised how close it was, I thought all the homophobes who decided to give their votes for Stubb only because Haavisto is gay, the lead would be much bigger… How many votes Haavisto would have gotten if people weren’t homophobic?

Both could have probably done well. With Alex we get a dude who has experience from so many different points of view. Finnish president is primarily working on security policy and foreign policy. Alex has experience from researching it, from being a public official, from being an elected official and minister, from the EU, from
running a private sector peace organization, etc. Very multifaceted and wide experience that offers good granularity and reality checks into what it is daily to work on that area. And he has a great spouse for representing and all those diplomatic functions the First Lady is a part of.
Not a bad choice for Finland into the 2030’s.
Still anyone in that job needs to keep their head clear, focus, perform and probably needs a bit of luck too. So: good luck!
