I got my German driving license last month in first attempt(driving in India more than 5 years), and drove alone twice last week. I have two major questions.

1. Left Turn: Picture one is an entry to parking for the gym, I see broken lines, meaning it is allowed to cross them. There was no oncoming traffic, nothing in shoulder view or on bicycle lane. I did a left turn exactly as I had learned. I slowed down and indicated at a right distance. However when I was turning the lady behind me honked aggressively. What should I think about it?

2. U-Turn: No oncoming traffic, no front traffic, no pedestrians, no sign restricting u-turns, google map said I should take a U-turn, is it allowed?

In general I follow speed limits, lane change rules and everything that I’ve learned, but getting such a reaction on the first day didn’t feel good.

  1. From what you tell here you drove safely and followed all the rules. You should really forget the honking lady as soon as possible. She was most likely in a hurry and simply frustrated at the fact that she had to slow down. Don’t let these people push you into moving faster than you’re comfortable with, because that is the way to cause accidents.

  2. try to not take these road rage incidents personally. yes, it sucks when people are this way. no, it should not impact your driving or view of yourself.

  3. You did nothing wrong,

But man, that looks like the worst driveway i’ve seen. Like who designed that? The devils driving instructor?

  4. For picture #1: You did everything right.

For picture #2: Just don’t U-turn in this country. Trust me, don’t.
