I remember listening to Dan Carlins podcast series on WW1, and when i heard the stories about flamethrowers, i could feel the fear of the people he was quoting.
Brutal.
The biggest display of human buffoonery was on full display in that war.
Dang in video games they go only 5 feet in front of you
Just shoot them and they will explode LUL
Flame throwers were amazing deterrents in WWI.
Other guys would high tail it out of there when they saw flamethrower gunners approaching their positions.
I’m not sure about ww1, but in ww2 the life expectancy of a flamethrower gunner on the line was about 15 seconds 😬
This is pretty gnarly, those dudes are visibly running from and getting swallowed by flame.
Jesus that’s horrible. I almost died in an electric fire that occurred in a business I owned, and I can only imagine the sheer terror of something like that on a freaking battlefield. Plus the resulting PTSD
But the shotgun? waaaaaaay to inhumane.
Yeah that shit was scary especially in tech warfare. Also made them a big target with the tank on their back
That’s some serious flammen being werfed here.
Used to be a professional reenactor in high school for the Admiral Chester Nimitz Museum and we used an actual flamethrower in the show. After one of our shows there was still a little fuel left and they let us “shoot” it. You feel like God when that tongue of flame shoots from the barrel and the heat was insane. Would not want to carry that bastard into battle.
I remember this clip from that WW1 Neurosis video. I hear that creepy ass soundtrack in my head
Was that the enemy or friendly fire??
Somebody called for a exterminator?
So question… given the trench warfare in Ukraine and how they are clearing trenches with drones and grenades…
… how useful would modernized flamethrowers be in the modern trench warfare?
