oh, poor little puppies, their little bonusies… finally! and i remember not so long ago being downvoted here when i dared mention that doc about the scams with..
i think it was united utilities? anyway, first bits below:
Water company bosses who preside over illegal sewage spills face a ban on their bonuses.
The environment secretary, Steve Barclay, is to block payouts to executives of firms that are polluting rivers, lakes and seas, starting with bonuses in the 2024-25 financial year from April.
Campaigners, Labour and the Liberal Democrats have been calling for the policy amid outrage at bosses pocketing more than £26m in bonuses, benefits and incentives over the last four years.
Senior executives from five of the 11 water companies that deal with sewage took bonuses last year, while at the other six they declined after public anger.
At the same time, companies plan to hike consumers’ bills by about £156 a year to pay for investment to prevent 140,000 sewage overflow spills a year.
Treating water is the one and only job of water companies. It’s not a bonusable matter, it is a raison d’etre matter. Fail that and don’t get paid at all.
Say, there’s a novel idea! A bonus that isn’t just part of their wage 🤔
oh no, whatever will they do with the massive base sallary increase, to account for loss of bonuses?
because pestminster are are perfidious cowards, and refuse to apply fines to dividend payouts, countering rentseeking neolib exploitation.
Is this a joke headline?
I have to justify my teams positions just to keep them employed, never fucking mind bonuses, and the benchmark for these guys is so low it’s just
> if you do illegal shit you might not get your bonus
Pun intended
Any companies that discharge sewage illegally should be fined massively and the CEOs imprisoned
So the penalty for crime is no bonus? Cool precedent
I have a much easier fix.
Connect their homes input water supply to the sewerage network and when they discharge into the rivers it discharges into their home.
Problem solved.
Anyone got anything difficult I can help with?
Long overdue. For too long they been puttin profits and bonuses over actually doin their job properly
Big deal as if they are going to miss the odd million
and then huge huge operational crippling fines for dumping in waterway’s…. right….
Why no criminal charges for illegal activity? That’s crazy
They are paid, handsomely, to do a job of running a utility company. Why the hell do they need a “bonus” (bribe) to do their job?
How would it work if all workers demanded a “bonus”?
“I know I get paid X amount to do this job, but I need a bonus of Y amount to encourage me to do it properly!
Pigs, with their snouts in the trough, is an image that comes to mind!
how about prison sentences for profiting from deliberate negligent environmental harm?
the whole governance of this isle is a shitshow.
Wait, rich people are actually facing consequences for their actions!
10 Years ago I worked for Wessex water documenting CSO’s (combined sewage outlet) because they didn’t know how many they had, then licensing them for the EU.
Secondly we had to set up remote monitoring as the licensing only allowed 1-2 discharges per year.
About fucking time, companies that can’t be run legally should have consequences, stricter the better.
They have gotten away with it for too long.
The fact that this wasn’t illegal anyway… it’s shocking
I don’t think this subreddit has the credentials to talk about how the sewage system works.
If you want to regulate the water companies, don’t recommend silly things like removing bonuses. They’ll just throw a scapegoat at it or pay people differently.
You want to gently change the law to ensure they do things the “legal” way.
