So glad he’s tackling the big issues our country is facing

Got to start somewhere to address this untenable cycle of shareholders demanding ever increasing profits, that leaves regular people holding the bag either due to cost cutting or inflationary tactics even when price increases are solely, “We think our customers won’t scream (notice) if we jack up cost this much”. Do I think it’s why he’s doing this? No, but whatever, build on it I guess….
I’m not a fan of this. I do like the idea of posting videos on Twitter as a way to reach out, but this kind of focus on snack size or demanding prices go down smells too much of populism. It’s appealing to the lowest common denominator about an issue the government isn’t actually able to do anything about. I get it’s a way to seem relatable, but it just feeds a sense that the price of junk food like a Big Mac is really what’s important and not, say, the price of healthcare or housing. If he’s not proposing any actual reform and is just complaining, then it just seems like pandering and stoking people to be upset.
They sell the food at a price and size that people will still buy. If you don’t like it, the answer is not to buy the product. Complaining about it while still buying it comes off as naive. This is just how our market works. Consumers today seem to have forgotten about the power of their wallets since they’re still spending tons of money.
reminder that for the second year in a row, biden will not be doing a 5 minute puff piece interview with a sports broadcaster before the Superbowl. An annual tradition since 2004 for Presidents to do a quick sit down, Biden’s handlers don’t want 100s of millions of people who don’t watch the news to see how old and demented Biden is and have politics pollute their bread and circuses.
2 normal sized bags of Doritos at the super market for $11. What are their overheads?
> but did not mention any actionable steps his administration would be taking
Bruh
>Biden: Practical economic indicators like wages and employment are doing really well right now, the economy is factually good.
Reddit: Fuck you old man, we only care about the price of groceries, do something about corporate gouging.
>Biden: Hey corporations, cut it out with the gouging.
Reddit: Fuck you old man, stop wasting your time on trivial things like the price of groceries and do something that matters.
It should be illegal to include a certain volume of “air” in packaged goods…
The shrinkflation stuff is honestly ridiculous. Consumers are not that dumb. People are not being tricked by the noticeably light weight and large boxes that are mostly filled with air… Also: Why do companies think they need to trick their customers to sell products? Cut it out it’s 2024.
I’m calling on Purina to make the big bag of dog food 50 pounds again, and then offer the 3 bonus pounds.
Not this 44 pound bag for the same price.
This is in part why the powers that be want an uneducated populace incable of critical thinking. It’s a lot easier to sell goods at overinflated prices to idiots.
He’s spot on because there are no products where the gouging is more obvious. Cereal and snack foods are grain and air. There’s no fucking reason they should be twice as expensive, yet there it is.
I need to try Aldi nacho chips (Noritos)
I need to try Aldi nacho chips (Noritos)
It’s been years since I’ve purchased a box of cereal and the last time I bought some Pringles, the can was already half empty.
Fuck Corporate Capitalism.
On the other hand – will this just accelerate people loosing weight in combination with wegoovy/zepbound? At what point to these companies realize that their greed basically weens consumers off their junkfood addiction and thus hurts future growth?
It’s probably better to make junk food more expensive
“Thank you so much for asking, Mr President, but no.”
So weak.
Or else what?
Our Prime Minster had the balls to criticize the monolopies he didn’t try to stop for gouging us.
And that was the only action he’s taken.
When the other party is also going to also allow us to rapidly slide into an oligarchy/slave state, why should people vote for your party or at all?
The best time to take action is before an election, instead of promising to do sonething only if you are re-elected.
Two habits I’m proud of kicking are junk food and drinking soda. I see chips are $7+ at the store and a case of soda is $10.. yikes
I’m okay with the shrinking portions, most Americans should probably be eating less anyway. The prices should also shrink proportionally.
Why the fuck would you promote that
I’m glad he’s really got his eye on the ball!
We could stop stop eating junk
Oh that should reverse all the price inflation caused by corporate greed. Just ask them to not do that
Haven’t purchased a bag of dorittos in *years*. They lost my business when they started that skrinflation shit.
So glad we live in a country where the most powerful politician chooses to appeal to the sense of morality of unelected immoral oligarchs because he believes they have the right to do things like this (but shouldn’t because it’s wrong) and chooses not to use his actual legal authority to actually make them do anything or alleviate the situation in any way. This is basically “old man yells at cloud.”
STOP BUYING THEIR PRODUCTS! This is the only way to get them to stop.
Corporate greed at its finest!
“No” -Shareholder’s heavy pockets
Tax companies at a rate proportional to their profit margins.
Any yet people are still buying junk food… shop at ALDIs your wallet will thank you.
Finally a president that speaks to main America
One this is genius timing, lol. 2: He really wants to scare them maybe some thoughts offered on reforming the SNAP program to exclude such snack ‘foods’. Hmm that might be an avenue too, prosecution for defrauding consumers and the government interest is that many people on the dole are adversely affected by the practice. IDK im just rambling now i think, lol.
Murkins are too fat anyway.
That’s a shame. I’m the CEO of Mike n Ike’s and was planning on shrinkflating our products right before the Super Bowl. I have no choice but to renege now that the president said something.
> A majority of Americans (55%) said in a recent CNN poll that they believe Biden’s policies have worsened economic conditions in the country, while just 26% believe his policies have improved conditions.
People are feeling the pinch created by greedflation. The uninformed or willfully ignorant blame Biden. Simple as that. The people responsible for this want fewer regulations and less interference in their quest to fleece us, the American people.
So they want a Republican. Doesn’t really matter who. They are all bought and paid for.
They’re just going with Trump because he can grift his own money. He just wants power. I believe he’ll do whatever his handlers tell him to. As long as he gets to play President.
Back in like 2005 I used to be able to get a big bag of Lays BBQ and a Sour Cream & Onion one 2 for $3. They were $1.50 each. Pre-covid it was like $2.50-2.99 a bag.
Now a days it’s $5.99 a bag AND those bags are MUCH smaller with far less chips.
It’s just ridiculous at this point.
Hell, a share size bag of M&M’s is friggin $12.99. They used to be $4.99.
That’s INSANE.
They’re raising prices at ridiculous markups while shrinking the size of the products, claiming record sales and laying more and more employees off every year on top of it.
Corporate greed is just absurd and it really is going to absolutely come crashing down on them eventually.
Come on guys, what else do you expect him to do? He asked nicely and said please!
