    But. Trump continually takes this to the next level when he says he will not implement NATO’s Article 5 to protect allies. **(BTW, the US has absolutely no say in who/where/when Article 5 is called)**

    He explains this by saying that they would never come to America’s aid if it were attacked. **(Dead Canadians defending the US during their ART 5, I guess they are irrelevant)**

  8. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, haven’t many NATO members already increased their budget for military spending?

    Curious how many countries are still under the target amount, but it’d be pretty awesome if all NATO members hit the target and nixed this talking point altogether.

    FWIW, I do agree that EU countries have underspent and have relied too much on the US as the backstop. However, it’s idiotic to make this a public talking point, this is something that should have been discussed and pushed behind closed doors as not to open the rift for our enemies.

What if NATO countries had actually contributed to NATO what they are supposed to?  What if Europe haven’t let their defense degrade to the point there are doubts it could even wage war?  Consider that maybe Trump is right that is bs that America is propping up NATO and Europe.  Trump has some valid points that should actually considered instead of trying to find the craziest way to spin it out of context.  Such as.  NATO countries are not contributing their fair share.  Europe is in no position to actually defend itself.  Without America, NATO and Europe would be screwed.

    I remember 9/11, I was absolutely raging and so was everyone else I knew. We felt like WE’D been attacked. Why? Because America stands for something important, freedom, liberty, democracy etc. That’s why when we see these maga fundamentalists and their cult leader actively trying to destroy it, to turn the presidents office into a throne room for the king, it makes blood boil.

  18. I think the U.S. gives other NATO nations a pass since the U.S. being the dominant player in NATO security does two things:

    – It benefits the U.S. economy to be the largest exporter of NATO arms. If Other nations did carry more of the weight, the U.S. defense industry would have more competition.

    – Having most of the weapons gives the U.S. the most security and leverage in matters of foreign policy. The U.S. is not dependent on other nations to act on matters of national security while other nations are dependent on the U.S. for matters relating to national security of NATO nations.

    Trump’s isolationism is a threat to American’s best industry, national defense, if other nations invest more in the development and production of their own defense systems.
