Let’s not be scared let’s start protecting ourselves. It’s been weird that we rely on a country on the otherside of the world to defend us…us been probably the richest continent that should be paying enough.

It’s Unbelievable that the United States will elect Trump again! Even Brazil, considered a Banana Republic, cornered your former president ( Bolsonaro), a Trump supporter who even attempted a coup d’état ,and he already has both feet behind bars. This year he will be arrested and is ineligible. Many military personnel are being arrested as well.
If someone like him gets elected once, he (or someone like him) can get elected twice. The GOP has been fundamentally altered, making the US an unreliable ally. Sure, a lot of European countries have not fulfilled their 2% NATO target, which was both naive and wrong – and should be rightfully critized. Doesn’t change the fact that Trump’s threats to not support NATO allies and general unpredicatbility make him and by extension the GOP and the US too unreliable. We need reliable deterrence.
If we’re lucky there will be a collective European effort for a nuclear programme instead of every country going for it on its own. It won’t happen in the next few years, but if the US is continuing down its current path it will happen.
I doubt Trump or his cronies realize what they are doing to the international security order just to score some points for national elections. They are literally about to kill Nuclear Non-Proliferation, making the world a more dangerous place. For everyone – even Americans.
Good. Time for the US to pull all troops from every foreign country. They need to take a step back from the world stage to address the problems at home.

They are terrified to tell their citizens that they need to increase taxes and lower the welfare state bennies for the EU.
If there is a slight chance the orange buffoon wins we should:
* Have our own defense industry completely independent of the US.
* No more ordering of new US weapon systems, yes they are superior but it also makes us very dependent. With the orange buffoon you never know, he might decide not to give parts any longer. Instead of JSF go for eurofighter or saabs gripen etc.
* Increase our spending
* Seek new allies in Asia. India would make sense, but China is also an option if they stop supporting Russia.
* Have our own nukes
* Increase defense spending on a european level.

Our reliance on the US is massive and that has been okay as long as they are close allies as they have been for the last 50 years. Now there is a real risk though that we will have a kremlin friendly buffoon as the president of the US. Especially now in the age of drones there is a golden opportunity to develop our own arms industry as many other systems have become obsolete. Trump is a known traitor, we should not aspire to become the next kurds.
