It is apparently such a difficulty to be polite in Norway that wikiHow made an article on it https://www.wikihow.com/Be-Polite-in-Norway

  1. As a Norwegian, the only thing I would edit is you can make a short honking noice when you pass friends.

But this guide feel more targeted to South of Norway, not North. 😂

  2. It seems easy to me if you are very mellow or have an introverted personality. Most of this just comes up as common sense for me because I’m a very introverted person. Not sure how someone who is more extroverted.

  3. *sigh* Yes, we whom dwell in Norway knows this. And most whom come here learn it in due time. This is also called common sense

  4. There is a wikiHow article on how to tie shoes and several for how to boil water. Heck, there is a couple on how to breathe, ffs.

Just because there is a wikiHow article on something don’t mean it is hard…

  5. If you know “Kardemommeloven” and “Janteloven”, then you’re pretty set.

Anyway, it’s very easy being polite in Norway:

    Don’t be a fucking dick.

  6. *be prepared for a discussion if you strongly advocate a right-wing political opinion. (even that of the Republican party in the US.)*

The word “Even” should be replaced with “Especially”. The Republican US party look like Nazi’s in comparison to the Norwegian right wing.

  7. A rather odd article. I did laugh out loud at this part: “Never express your own opinion unless the same opinion has already been expressed by the majority in the room”. Yay, Jantelov!

  8. Jantelaw needs to go global. Oslo is the only city in Norway where you can get away with self brag.

Also dont speak on the phone on public transport full stop.

  9. > Except for when doing business, it is perfectly OK to address people by first name only

Not true, unless it’s the royal family, we only address people by their first name.
