It seemed incredibly inconsequential. Like it was almost put there for the people preforming and any select audience that tuned in specifically for it. My wife who is not into politics like me didn’t even know what it was. It must be exhausting to go out of your way to be outraged all the time.

Over the last few years, as the tone of the Star Spangled Banner has taken on this weird feeling for me. Kind of like it doesn’t really represent the America I grew up in, and spent over 16 years in the Army, defending. So, I mute the TV. When the song is done, I unmute the TV. Sometimes I forget and I end up listening to the Star Spangled Banner. After the song is done, I just go on about my business. I don’t cry and whine that the song was being played. I don’t stop watching the game because I might have to hear the song. I just act like a rational person and don’t care about the fact that other people love their patriotism. It’s not difficult Matt…maturity usually comes with age, but this one may never come.
