Fly-tippers trapped as locals block their vans and call police

  1. Good show, bloody fly tippers are a menace in both rural areas and urban.

    >“We detained two males who were instructed to reload the two vans with all the rubbish dumped.

    >“We supervised them cleaning up their mess and enjoyed a great cup of tea and slice of home made cake courtesy of the farmer’s wife.

    >“No cake and tea for these two offenders.”

    >The reloaded vans were then seized under the Environmental Act

Can’t but help think that whilst seizing the vans is good some sort of stronger sanctions are in order although garroting them with own intestines may be a little to far.

  2. Score one for community justice I guess. Surprised they did it in broad daylight, smart flytippers wait til the middle of the night.

Little concerned by the whole “elected official calling for Capital punishment of non-violent offenders” though. Problem with flytipping isn’t that the punishment isn’t severe enough, it’s that nobody thinks they’ll be caught (because most aren’t). Enforcement is the solution but that involves spending public money so we just keep reaching for a bigger stick.

  3. Im glad their vans were seized although i suspect they will be returned.

Not enough punishment of people who flagrantly break the rules. Fly tipping, building without planning, felling trees which are disrupting planning, arson to help developers (wonky pub anyone?).

Not enough is done and its clear to all so the problems get worse.

  4. Takes balls to do this. I’d like to say I’d do the same, but I’d be too worried the police just wouldn’t turn up
I was recently assaulted at my home (corridor of the flat block I live in) and police took 40 mins to turn up. Felt very safe that day

  5. They’ll be back in the middle of the night.

    No, it’s not me, lol.

  6. Good on them! About bloody time people started standing up to them!

  7. I’m a little surprised the locals weren’t the ones arrested to be honest, I guess I’m far too cynical.

  8. FANTASTIC. I live not far from this area, and fly tipping around here is insane. You just see it everywhere. Absolutely love that these bastards got caught, shamed, and punished.

  9. In The Netherlands all you need to do is call ‘grof vuil’ and the council will come and pick it up for like 10 euro. I don’t understand why this isn’t an option in the UK.

It will cost more in petrol to drive out of your way to fly tip.

  10. Ill be the job the waste came from isnt up to much. If youre willing to fly tip like a scumbag youve probably cut alot of other corners.

  11. I hate flytippers. I got some people to move some of my waste, I checked their carrier licence and even got a receipt from them to show they disposed it. Yet on Facebook I saw all of my stuff fly tipped in a field. I paid for another firm to pick it up and as far I know it was finally disposed off. I’m not sure what happened to the company but I did report it. It just shows that customers have no choice but to trust these cowboys even if they seem legitimate.

I wonder if the answer is the council making it easier for those with waste to get it picked up? I’m guessing the fly tippers fly tip because taking it to the dump probably costs them an awful lot of money?
