  1. I’d like to tag the guy that told me nothing is wrong with London at the moment.

EDIT: Oh ok it seems a fight outside a pub with a machete has become normalised to you lot. Telling in itself.

  2. I’m glad to hear that customers fought back against the crooks and chased them out though, everyone who helped deserves free pints on the house for a good long time!

  3. Not a great place to mug. Lots of people with dutch courage with potential weapons inside a pub. Glad to learn that the thugs were fought off.

  4. Set upon en-masse by violent thugs in a central London pub?

    Part and parcel.

  5. Is this definitely what happened? The footage shows people running away but no specific information that they were trying to rob people, and there are no eye witness quotes in the article either.

Robbing such a big group of people in such an obvious way seems like a crazy plan, high risk and low reward. Criminals can be stupid, so I guess it’s not impossible but my first suspicion would be they were after someone in particular?

  6. For those lazy to open the link but curious to know where the incident occurred (90% of Reddit), this was at Marquis Cornwallis pub near Russell Square on Feb 9th

  7. Nah – doesn’t stack up at all – no one would rob a packed pub with bats on a Friday night, the flying pint glasses…. My guess is a dispute in one of the estates up the back near King’s Cross, chase and someone has run into the pub for sanctuary followed by the kids with bats who’ve then done one.

  8. You’d have to be mental to try and rob a large group of pissed up people. This sounds like bullshit.

  9. These thugs if caught should get 10 years **minimum** in prison for this sort of horrendous crime (in reality, if charged they would get pathetic short sentences or not see any prison time at all) – the vast majority of serious crime is committed by a relatively small number of men, but the status quo is *soft sentencing*, which as a criminal is the most optimal approach for that lifestyle because it allows you to be on the streets causing pain and suffering for as long as possible.

  10. What’s happening to London? I’m moving there later this year and feel like it’s full of crime

  11. There have been incidents of steaming where a mob attack a larger group and rob them. I remember being caught up in one on a train in Clapham Junction about 25 years ago. During the riots a local pub had a mass mugging.

But this seems like something else. Armed with bats.

It’s easy to speculate but it doesn’t feel like a simple robbery attempt.
