why are customs so expensive? I payed 65 euros for a product and have to pay 31 euros just so they can open the package, tape it up again and send it.

  1. I remember buying used books from a U.S. reseller on Amazon, 20€ something like that.
And I had to pay taxes on the books as they were new. They counted a total of 140€ of books.
I don’t even know how they could evaluate the books. Some of them aren’t published anymore.

  2. The 15 euro ‘Douane formalitieiten’ makes it so expensive.

Especially on cheap pieces for like 20 euro. Thats like 15 euro + btw. It doubles the price.

Its always 15 euro if its under 150 euro.
Should be way less, maybe 5 euro max.

  3. Because EU. That’s the price for buying foreign goods. Everyone has to pay such prices, it’s just that the EU happens to be big enough that we rarely need to buy from outside. It seems as though the product you bought is German. Maybe just buy it from there next time to save all of the hassle?

  4. Regardless of the excessive custom costs, it seems a bit odd to by such a widely available product from a UK website…

  5. It’s also because the sender didn’t bother to arrange the VAT beforehand. Now it has to pass by customs. I do agree that 15 euro customs fee is excessive.

  6. I know it’s hard sometimes to find the product you want in the EU, but I usually keep searching untill I got what I want, or get another product that is available in Belgium or the EU. I see these are some razor products for wet shaving, I know of some really good webshops in Belgium, if you want the link, send me a pm 😉

  7. german product and british currency.

It means that someone have bough a product from an alien country. because UK is an alien nation for EU since Brexit. for more details, ask Boris Johnson.

  8. The 15 EUR handling/management fee is annoying. The seller should have done the paperwork to avoid that.

The 16 EUR VAT is normal, again the seller should take care of that in the checkout process.

  9. How else is Bpost supposed to make money?
All their services are so expensive no one uses them unless they have no other option.

  10. Handling fees can get quite expensive. I had a 15 euro fee to “check the contents” of my package, which was just a single Minisdisc…

  11. Why is everything so expensive?

Because it’s An easy way to create some extra income..

Pro tip when buying something out of Europe, ask the seller to put “repair under waranty” on the package.. no customs due in that case

This trick has saved me A LOT of money
