At the time it was seen very much as a battle between Jacobite rebels and Government forces, a sort of last gasp of the civil wars. It’s since been ret-conned by Scottish Nationalists to be about the evil English Colonisers conquering the humble Scots who were just minding their own business!
The Government forces at Culloden included 4 Scottish Regiments.
My favourite genre of permanently offended Internet folk are the Scottish people who somehow think they had absolutely nothing to do with colonialism

Hasn’t it been named that for literally years? It’s right next to the Scot’s Guard museum, which is pretty informative of the role Scottish soldiers had in British colonialism.
