Yum, we are having square sausage for tea. I love the taste of this product, but I’m stumped as to the meaning of ‘we hae meat’. Is it ‘we have meat’?

Full disclosure I’ve only lived in Scotland for 18 years.

  1. Yes, its we have meat.

And probably a play on the Selkirk grace

    >Some hae meat and canna eat,
And some wad eat that want it,
But we hae meat and we can eat,
And sae the Lord be thankit.

  2. It’s from the Selkirk Grace

    > Some hae meat and canna eat,

    > And some wad eat that want it,

    > But we hae meat and we can eat,

    >Sae let the Lord be Thankit!

  3. This has to be a joke. If you’d just have googled the phrase you’d have seen it straight away. And you’ve “only” been here 18 years and didn’t know it? No.

  4. They used to have nice sausages now they are awful and over priced

  5. We have meat…and it’s shit, go to a butchers for square sausage

  6. Its from a Burns poem

Some hae meat and canna eat,
And some wad eat that want it,
But we hae meat and we can eat,
And sae the Lord be thankit.
