[Link to last post](https://old.reddit.com/r/ireland/comments/195lo4q/19_month_update_im_the_fat_fuk_who_asked_for_help/)

It’s the 13th, meaning it’s time for my Reddit update

(Start weight: 22 Stone 5 / 142kg / 313lb)

Drumroll…

#I’ve lost a total of 9 stone 2 pounds / 58.1kg / 128lb

Today’s weight is 13 stone 3 / 83.9kg / 185lb (I’m 48F, 5 foot 6)

Down 8 pounds / 3.6kg since last post

The amount of weight I’ve lost is equivalent to [this little girl](https://imgur.com/a/KtpQyoS)

Pretty astonished that I was able to lose so much this month. I delved deep into TDEE / BMR / MACROS. I won’t bore you with too much details but long story short, in order for me to continue to lose 1 pound a week, I need to eat 1283 calories a day. However, my basic metabolic rate (BMR) is 1486.

This is the amount of engergy/calories my body needs to function properly. Eating below this can result in weight loss, yes. But also loss of muscle and bone density, cause fatigue and is generally a bad idea long term.

So what I’ve done is set my calories at my BMR of 1486 and OH MY GOD I’M GOING TO SAY IT: [I’ve started fucking exercising](https://imgur.com/a/yC6EsdB)

Now, I haven’t darkened the door of a gym, God forbid. I’m just walking. I get around 8k steps 5 days a week. When I started this journey I wasn’t able to walk 80 steps, so the freedom of being able to move makes me giddy. I sometimes have to stop myself beaming like an idiot and bouncing along like fucking [Crash Bandicoot](https://imgur.com/a/VOFHz4v)

So I seem to have hit this lovely sweet spot of manageable exercise and eating healthily.

My goal of a healthy weight is within sight for the first time in my life. I would like to have a BMI of 24.9 – JUST at the threshold of normal weight. That’s 11 stone / 69.9kg (nice) / 154lb, so I’m starting a new trend with these posts:

#Countdown to goal: 2 stone 3 pounds / 14.1kg / 31lb

  1. This is fuckin amazing and so consistent. Well done buddy

  2. I often look out for your updates. I don’t know you but I’m so fucking hyped for you. You’ve basically gifted yourself the most important thing in the world. Health. I’ve no doubt you’ll reach your goal and will be raising a faraway glass to you when you do. Keep going friend.

  3. Huge congrats. I love to see your posts, please keep up the good work!

  4. You fucking champ, go on ya good thing! Delighted with your post. Could you send info of how you calculated your BMR?

  5. I’m so delighted for you!
A whole baby giraffe is mental!

I’m a month into my new diet-ish thing and I’ve been focusing on changing what I eat rather than reducing portion sizes just yet, I’ve had to kind of re-learn how to read my hunger cues because increasing my protein intake is slowing my digestion. I’m not acing it but I’m doing okay.
Still struggling with reducing carbs but that will come. Still resentful that sugar counts towards my macros hahaha

  6. You are seriously amazing – you have lost my entire body weight (58kg)!

  7. Just walking is fine and I should do more of it to shift some weight. Your updates are a highlight of this subreddit.

  8. So amazing. You shouldn’t stop yourself beaming and bouncing on your walks it’s such an achievement.
I had horrible pain in my foot for almost a year making all steps sting terribly and I still smile to myself now years on taking my lunchtime walk that I am so lucky to not have pain moving now and how I will never take it for granted again. Go you!

  9. This is the best series of posts on this subreddit. You’re an inspiration to many more than you know.

  10. I’m so happy for you! That’s amazing, you’ve literally changed your life. Keep it up. So proud

  11. Fair play to you, you’re doing amazingly. I always see your posts and always upvote and sometimes read them. I’m surprised you’ve lost this much and your only starting to exercise now. Keep up the great work, you’re an absolute inspiration just for showing what diet alone can achieve. Those 2 stone 3 pounds don’t stand a chance when they’re up against someone with your drive and determination, you’ll blast past that target

  12. FUCK!!! That’s more than I weigh! But then I was a fat fuck too (and weighed MORE than you did – I’m 5’6″ and female). Ironically (not that BMI is any reliable measure of obesity because it’s just a ratio. Waist-to-hip’s more accurate (especially for burds) and body fat percentage is the gold standard).

According to BMI, I’m now underweight (by a fair bit), but my waist-to-hip says I’m healthy. Because I’ve been bedridden, I’ve likely got more body fat than muscle right now.

    I’m around 7 stone (45kg).

Can I offer some advice…? (I’m going to anyway). Ignore calories. Seriously. I didn’t start losing big until I dropped my carbs and increased the amount of fat I was eating (then I dropped 10kg in a month).

Calories don’t make you gain weight – their source does; I was eating almost half what I was when I was losing than when I was a fat bitch.

I cut out grains and starches (that means no potatoes. Or Guinness) and increased high fat dairy, meat, and animal fats. Then I began to see big losses.

Eating fewer calories than you’re expending is not sustainable long term (you’ll end up bingeing). Remember that carbs are the only macronutrient which has any effect on blood sugar. Eat more fat and you’ll feel less hungry (and will likely end up consuming fewer calories anyway).

If you’re able, keep track of your BF% and waist-to-hip measurements, rather than your BMI, as they’ll give you a truer picture of your overall fat fuckeriness…

But…***WELL FUCKING DONE***!!! 🥳🥳🥳I’ve had to start using a backup account (as I could no longer post using my main account for some weird reason). I’ve been joined here for years, but I’ve never seen your updates before…

  13. Fair play to you!!! I hope you are so proud 👏 🥲 🥰

  14. Yess I love this! Your updates always cheer me up.

People truly underestimate steps I think! Lots of walking can make such a huge difference to your level of fitness.

  15. Thats amazing! Well done, you should be super proud of yourself

  16. You’re amazing and thank you for those of us in the back who are finding the path dark and bleak 💙

  17. You really are an inspiration. What you’ve managed so far is nothing short of incredible!

  18. The walking will help massively.

I know a woman who was in very similar position to you. She started walking (and I’m sure changed diet but I didn’t ask) and the weight fell off.

She is quite literally half the size she used to be. I didn’t recognise her hardly the last time I saw her.

Delighted to hear your update. Keep it up!

  19. You’re amazing. I’m in the process of getting my own shit together healthwise at the moment and you’re a total inspiration. Well done.

  20. Amazing results, big congratulations! How does one find out their BMR just out of interest?

  21. Just to let you know, it’s a good idea to “reverse diet” even while not finishing your weight loss journey. Your body has gone through a huge adaption and being in a long term state of calorie deficit will cause your metabolism to adapt and slow to a lower rate than someone the same size who has never dieted.

To counter this, its important to give yourself lots of diet breaks. The idea is to be able to eat as much as possible while maintaining your weight so long term, the weight loss is more sustainable.

There’s even research out there that shows taking a break from your diet allows you to lose more weight in less time than not taking a break.

1400 calories is not that much food, i think your goal should be maintaining at closer to 1800, which is much more realistic.

Good luck though! You’ve done incredible. Unfortunately the hardest part is yet to start. Maintaining a healthy weight and finding your new normal where you can live and enjoy life without constantly thinking of weight.

  22. That’s so amazing! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you’re an inspiration!

  23. I’m thrilled here that you have started walking and like it. Walking is all you need to do. That’s fantastic news.

I hate gyms too. I hate the noise, the smell, the dread of going to it. I’m lucky that I can fit a weight bench and squat rack in my spare bedroom, which means I have no excuse to do the bare minimum of lifting weights. There is no way on earth I would travel to a gym to lift, all power to people who do go though.

Looking forward to your next update.

  24. That is amazing!!! Keep it up. I have tried so many times to reach my ideal weight which is 14 and a half stone. My worst weight was 20 stone and the closest I got was 15st 4lb.. And every time, for some unfathomable fucking reason, I fell off the wagon and it takes me 6 months to a year to get back on the wagon… I must be doing something fundamentally wrong. Am I losing it too quick? restricting myself too much that is unsustainable? I don’t know. I seem to hit a wall somewhere between 4 months to 6 months along.
I am on the wagon again. This time I have two accountability buddies, we text eachother our progress every week. I am terrified that I might fail again, even though right now, I am enjoying losing weight, taking out my “skinny clothes” that fit again….. Sorry for babblin on, and hope you don’t fall into the same trap. I only wish I knew what the trap is, so I can avoid it.

  25. Good God, man! What do you typically eat in a day? That is amazing.

  26. Congratulations!! I love that you’re sharing so regularly and showing that incremental changes, sustained over time, really do make a difference. You’re a great inspiration not just to folks looking to lose weight but make any behavioural change. Thank you for keeping us posted!!

  27. Fair play lad it’s not easy but you did you should be proud
