Given some of the talking points heard surrounding the recent tragedy, felt like this was a good statistic to have.

  1. Our of interest what was the breakdown of the gender of victims?

Edit: not usually one to complain about down votes, but it’s a bit bizarre a question like this on a post like this is being down voted.

  2. The replies under here of “I never heard anyone say that”, were you taking a social media break when everyone was under the impression that “the Romanian” was believed to be the attacker? Because Twitter in particular was swimming in individuals trying to use it to push xenophobic agendas and others trying to develop a narrative that it’s not men attacking and killing women in Ireland, it’s FOREIGN men, if it weren’t for him being *foreign*, it wouldn’t have happened at all.

It’s fine if you honestly just did not see any of this going on because you weren’t deliberately following the matter but please then accept that the reason you never hear anyone saying it is because you’d rather not and not because it isn’t being said.

  3. Not to take away from the recent events but looking at the stats your 2x more times in danger of dying in a road accident, and if the smoking data is anything to look it it’s over 100x more likely to kill you

  4. I live in the US…..38 is like a quite week in some states!! Yes, its racist….luckily I think Irish people are pretty decent and pay no attention to that crap….

  5. People who find excuse for their own failures and misfortunes outside of themselves don’t care about statistics or the truth. They know it’s a lie but choose to believe it.

  6. Someone I know literally said this to the husband and I the other day. Starting with the Caveat that ” X is not racist in any way”..”but he told me that its Foreigners that are responsible for most of the murders and rapes/violent crime in this country as its their nature..”

Not less than 24hrs later, similar conversation overhead standing in a queue in the supermarket.

    It’s a thing. A bad thing.

    O.o

  7. Wow. As an American, 38 homicides in a year for your country is absolutely unfathomable.

    Those are rookie numbers.

    Seriously, WTF

  8. Actually seems quite proportionate, if not a bit low. Foreign nationals account for approximately 12.9% of the population so there’s definitely room to bump those numbers up a bit.

    /s

  9. Highly unlikely that in 80%+ Irish country that foreigners of any kind commit most of any crime, would be interesting to see the crime stats though, anyone know where he got them?

  10. I assume I’ll get down voted for this, so I’ll clarify that I don’t believe foreign nationals are to blame in general. Pricks come in all shapes , sizes and colours.

But this seems like bad faith statistics as well as a straw man arguement , they make up 10.5% of murderers based off of those who are charged , what about unsolved , uncharged , conviction rate, if 4 murders are still unsolved then that changes that % drastically, I have no idea about population statistics , what % of the general population is foreign national etc , what about naturalised citizens that the likes of NP would have a problem with anyway and refer to them as foreign when trying to make there point on this.

  11. You’ve got groups trying to divide society. Men against women. Irish against foreigners and whites against black and Asian people etc. Remember that there quite a number of accounts on Twitter and the journal that are also pretending to be Irish and trying to sow division.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this is happening across the world. We also should not be importing toxic American hate that pits everyday people against one another.

  12. I think the people that blame foreign nationals for everything’ opinions are irrelevant.

They tend to be the loudest cos they are the stupidest..

Do I care what loud stupid ignorant people think? No..

    Should you?.. also no.

  13. There’s an interesting concept in statistics about crime called the “Proximity effect”. The basic idea that contrary to belief, most assaults/crimes happen within a relatively small radius of where the victim and/or perpetrator live. This is why, statistically, you’re more likely to be a victim of a family member, neighbour, or just someone you’re likely to be around everyday than a complete stranger. Because of this, segregated groups (whether by circumstance or choice) tend to affect one another more than outside groups. It’s rare (not unheard of, but really uncommon) for someone to go to a new area their unfamiliar with to commit a crime, since they don’t know the best way to escape, hide, or travel home (which would only increase the likelihood of being spotted on CCTV passing shops or getting public transport).

This is a big reason why abuse victims tend to be abused by family members/friends; ease of access, familiar ties that pressure conformity, immediate consequences should the abuser be released.

The point is the idea that less than 1% of the population are accounting for 51% of crime, when they’re unlikely to interact regularly with anyone outside that same <1% is a logical absurdity. For that to work out, a few hundred people would need to be doing nothing but committing crimes against each other every day of their lives.

  14. This also happens in America, hard working law abiding immigrants are getting blamed ( by the Republican Party ) for “rampant crime” when in fact they break the law at a far lower rate than natural born citizens . Their manufactured fear only fools themselves.

  15. foreign nationals, attacked and victims of crimes while also simultaneously being labelled as criminals. i said something similar before and i’ll say it again. If i was alone at night and saw a person who isn’t white on the street, i’d feel safe. but if i see a white irish guy(especially in trackies) i’m going to either to hide away in a shop or leg it

  16. Had ordered something from Amazon and was waiting for it to come as needed it for going on a roadtrip the following day. Another Amazon delivery arrived and I asked the delivery guy (Irish) about the other. Our deliveries sometimes get delivered to another similarly addressed house one road over.

He said yeah it might have gone there and they may be some foreigners who just decided to keep it. I called my partner who is clearly not from this sunless Isle ‘my love, can you come here for a second. Pardon me, what was that again?’. He bet a fairly hasty retreat leaving a mubled apology over his shoulder..

It pisses me off for the amount we bitch and moan about each other (not always without cause) that we can so quickly jump on the band wagon of this kinda zenaphobhic shite when we have so many c*nts here
