Only military might will win Europe respect, Poland’s Tusk tells fellow leaders. The European Union will only be taken seriously if it becomes a serious military power, Polish PM Tusk told his German counterpart Olaf Scholz on Monday

Seems like he had a change of heart, because my soldier friend is adamant that one more term in his previous stint as the prime minister would have killed the Polish military dead, but I guess I didn’t vote for his coalition out of admiration for Tusk’s devotion to principles.
Anyway, he is right, the “peace dividend” turned into a “peace renovation bill” and failing to adjust to that reality will make us lose peace altogether.
We need to dumb down our language. We have tried it with words, diplomacy, and having strong economic ties with Russia. Putin shat in our face.
“Literally having the bigger stick” is something even simpletons and bullies like Trump (for NATO support in case he wins again) and Putin (in case he contemplates a physical attack) understand.
Another important aspect how the EU could earn respect is to stop electing clowns and children as leaders. It’s fun for a while but someday you have to bring back the adults.
I’d hate to say it, but returning to a wartime economy to quickly grow our European militaries might be the right way to go. All because of a bunch of Russian idiots stuck in the past.
was he a bully when he was a kid?
Yes good luck convincing young men, who have shitty jobs while their bosses get rich, who can’t afford rent let alone purchase a house, and will live with their parents well into their 30s to join the military and give their life to protect “western values”…
Ah, dammit, Poland again trying to make Germany start a war /s
Fucking finally the EU sees the light. Ridiculous it took the Trump statement to get a consensus on the need to gear up militarily.
So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is
To prepare for war
Europe needs a strong combined military force. That would be our best safety insurance. I hope our leaders will finally acknowledge this need and act on it.
Unfortunately in these days it’s true.
European Army Now
Good. At least some EU leaders are not just Oblivion npc’s and are trying to nudge us in the right direction.
Very true.
With its own Ai companies providing the defence industries.
I’d normally be against this but if I think of trump and putin it just instantly becomes clear that military strength is the only thing that will motivate them to rethink invading countries. I do mean usa too as the same type of people who cheers for him are the same type who cheered for Hitler
People have been talking about it for years but it’s time for the European military union to become a thing. 1 united force with as single goal to keep our continent safe from invasion. It’s can be a separate entity to the EU, allow countries like the UK and Norway to join in.
Having a “ big” stick is useless if ( politically) unwilling to use it. With deciding within a singular country already difficult, let alone trying to compromise with 26 countries.
As long as their is no EU feeling and the commitment of the troops is more dedicated towards their country any EU army will be an expensive opera army.
Like there is a majority consensus of an EU operation but some key countries are against ( key countries = those that have some niche required military assets needed for the mission) and both population and the troops simply refuse to join the combat. Force them against their will? Deploy the military against the refusing EU countries?
Even on national level the polarization is already rather high ( Immigrants, Gaza, EU, Ukraine) and you only have to look at the mess with the US I think that coalitions of the willing with stronger but still independent semi full capable national armies is the best to have. Under a NATO umbrella if possible.
In the union where everyone speaks different languages that would be impossible. They will end up blowing up themselves.
You can have a powerful military, and still try a diplomatic way. But, once diplomacy fails and you dont have a powerful military to back it up youre screwed.
Poland go from the main opposent to the main defender of UE army 😂
But that a good news btw
Tusk continues to be one of the most based politicians in the whole Eu.
Peace through superior firepower
Political power too. Right now it’s too weak as a political union.
We should have our own Pentagon, integrating the might of all willing member states and go into war economy. We need to prepare immediately. Sole command should be appointed by majority of the willing states.
It wasn’t a wake up call a few years ago when “Bad orange man” said NATO countries weren’t meeting the 3% GDP obligation?
Didn’t Trump tell NATO to double their military spending in 2018, and they laughed him off?
