It’s amazing to me that Hobby Lobby spends all this money on these ads promoting a message that they do not even practice.
This is a lot like all lives matter in that the actual words of the message sound perfectly fine and innocuous, but the message hidden behind that is a damned dagger waiting to stab people in the back.
Perfect example of Conservative Christianity! Use God’s people you target with hate, to prove your love. Christian Leaders, leave that child alone, put that money down and drop to your knees to pray for forgiveness. Praying is what God ask of you; Preying is what Satan is getting from you.
They’re all over my Reddit feed today *even though I blocked them months ago*
Seems both sides have really unified around hating those ads. They were exactly semi-Christian enough to appease no camp.
Those ads aren’t for us, they’re to make themselves feel better
I knew someone in college (an art student) who was gay and the closest crafting/art store was the hobby lobby. And they said they would often shoplift there and call it the “Hate Gay Tax.”
I just don’t understand how Evangelical MAGAts are so comfortable with their hypocrisy.
It must be how they were raised.
We’ve seen this before.
Years ago now, there used to be a bunch of religious types at Pride parades with big “We’re sorry” shirts and signs. “We accept you”. Their schtick was that they were there to apologize to the LGBT community for the wrongs that have been done to LGBT persons by Christians.
There were lots of pictures. Lots of hugging and smiles and etc.
Then the other shoe dropped. The point was to pull people into the church, get them to form social connections, then pivot into classic Christian Self-hate. They were an anti-LGBT group that was playing a game, to “save souls”. Ends justifying the means and all that.
All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again.

This shit is why faith groups aren’t trusted even when they claim to preach acceptance.
I know this is reddit. And we all just read the headlines and make jokes (already made mine in this thread!) ,but I highly encourage you actually read the article by Salon.
It is some shady, evil, psyop shit theyre doing.
I learned 3 things from this ad
1. Christian’s are into feet
2. They need a Super Bowl ad to boost their numbers because more and more people are leaving the church
3. Jesus would have hated this ad and the money spent on it
I’ll never understand the people who are susceptible to these kinds of organizations. Maybe it has to do with my upbringing and background. But even from my earliest memories, I thought of most religions as weird. All the idolization was the oddest for me.
If Jesus were to come back tomorrow, these folks would be among the first in line to nail him up again.
It would be a long line.
Ever since someone told me about performing religion vs. practicing religion, stuff like this is even easier to spot and also more infuriating that it gets accepted so easy.
Hobby Bench is better!! How did Hobby Lobby even get to use the color and font of Hobby Bench and muscle them out of business?? I guess I better get to googling.
I can’t really speak for their politics, but I’m 99% sure that Hobby Bench doesn’t pay criminals for artifacts or vocally oppose women using contraception.
Disgusting. You couldn’t pay enough to be a Christian because of people like this. If it was all true, I’d rather hang with Satan than the person they claim their God is. At least Satan has a sense of humor…
I hate it when they shove their lifestyle down my throat. Sound familiar?/s also smh
I love reporting the ads here.
Reminder that the founders of Hobby Lobby funded ISIS by buying illegal black market artifacts that ISIS was plundering.
Funded by the FAR-Right Hobby Lobby CEO – which is why no DEM should support that business venture.
After a hard day of leading his Army at the border, Jesus loves to relax by washing feet.
I fucking knew that was one of their ads. Every time I see an online one, I report it.
American Christianity has been replaced by Christianism. The latter has all the appearance, trappings and tenets of the former, but is intended only to accumulate power by insinuating itself into politics. Its leaders AND its followers are all in on the act too, so it’s all just one big lie. You can thank Reagan for that, despite whatever BS his POS daughter has been saying lately.
Super bowl ad costs $7 million (on average) for a 30 second spot. An estimated 42 million Americans live in a household with Food Insecurity. With $7 million you could feed anywhere from 3 million to 44 million people depending on the meal. Hobby Lobby could’ve fed every hungry home in America, but instead they made a SuperBowl ad about Jesus washing feet.
#RepublicanChristianValues baby
The older I get, the weirder believing in God is.
Weird, but it looks like hobby lobby is expanding their business model to include pedicures.
The ads were laughably hypocritical. Keep spending Hobby Lobby…
This makes me so sad. There was a big part of me really hoping these ads were the real deal, with real actual Christians behind them, who would go against this conservative, Republican “Christianity”. And the more I think about it the more I’m mad than sad! Ugh! These people are in for a real surprise when they actually meet Jesus (I mean aside from him not being white). They are going to proudly point to all the evil they’ve done, thinking it’s hot stuff, “Look at all I’ve done in your name!” And Jesus will look them right in the eye and say, “I don’t even know you, go away” (Matt 7:21-23 since they probably won’t even know the Bible says that)
There is no hate like Christian Love!
Great article. First they befriend you, they find out where you work and where you live and start visiting you. They tell you about what others are thinking about you and how they are abusing you even though nothing has happened and those others are actually the people who love you and care about you. My X-wife fell victim the christians
Now we know who is paying the bill to flood Reddit with hegetsus advertising. Ads that you can’t downvote, you can’t block, you can’t comment on and reporting means nothing. Now they appear inside the comments section too. #gettinpaid 🤦
I’ve been anti-hobby lobby and the greens for years. Thank you for this well written article. I hope the message reaches.. well.. everyone.
They are all disgusting monsters, trying to rip this country apart, and USING god to do it. Reprehensible behavior if you ask me, but what do I know, I’m an atheist.
And proves that CBS does not care whether they are broadcasting messages for hate groups as long as the check clears.
HeGetsUs is white, Christian nationalism. Period.
It used to be funded by Servant Foundation, a non-profit donor-advised fund sponsor which does business as The Signatry; most individual donors have chosen to remain anonymous. One of the campaign’s backers is David Green, the founder of Hobby Lobby. $100 million was spent on the campaign initially. In 2023, the organization stated it intended to spend a billion dollars on the campaign within the next three years.
As of early 2024, the campaign was under new leadership and no longer affiliated with the Servant Foundation; instead, it is overseen by a new nonprofit organization named Come Near. (Probably because people investigated what the Servant Foundation was about. They’re trying a rebrand to throw everyone off.)
(Time to investigate who is funding Come Near. It won’t be a surprise.)
CNN has discussed the incongruity between the campaign’s professed values and those of its donors, who have also given money to anti-abortion and anti-LGBT organizations such as the Alliance Defending Freedom, which the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) considers a hate group. In response to its television commercials, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez argued that Jesus “would not spend millions of dollars on Super Bowl ads to make fascism look benign.”
It’s white, Christian nationalism and the rest of the country has to call them out on it.
The funniest thing about those ads is that liberals know who funds them, so we know they’re propaganda trying to lure young voters over to the right.
But they fucked up, because right-wing christians are now online saying the ads are liberal propaganda.
What’s amazing is the number of blond Jews, including Jesus. Laughable.

Jesus wasn’t white though… They whitewashed him.
All while being scared of barcodes
Jesus warned against these fake Christians.
[The same Hobby Lobby that directly financed the ISIS caliphate in Iraq by purchasing smuggled antiquities?](https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/07/hobby-lobby-smuggled-thousands-of-ancient-artifacts-out-of-iraq/532743/)
